For the first time since getting my PPL I will be using it for my original intended purpose, to travel!!

Here is the Route Of Flight.

http://skyvector.com/?ll=40.91506689479529,-81.44371408078997&chart=14&zoom=3&plan=A.K5.KCAK:A.K5.KOEB

Aircraft is a Cessna 172 , GPS equipped, I am a VFR only PPL.

I am planning on leaving Friday morning very early, and coming back early on sunday morning.

Flight Planning 1 Hour 44 Minutes before adding winds aloft (thats opposed to the typical 4:45 minute car ride)

Ive reserved a private hangar to hold me there and I am having family pick me up.

I am planning on filing a flight plan so that flightaware can track me, I know its very hit or miss with VFR flight plans, so what are the chances that it actually shows up correctly?

Ill post more info of the trip as it comes closer, I am very excited!

Looks like fun! Flightaware wont pick you up if you just file a VFR flight plan, but usually if you get FF with center and get in the system it will show up.

I feel your excitement!
Main thing will be the weather. Too far off to say what you will be dealt. Right now, they are calling mixed bag of rain/cloud dep + dest areas. Of course it could change 180 before you leave. Good luck!

WAY too early to bother forecasting the weather, but you can certainly start monitoring the bigger picture.

Update:

The planes real owner needed it for business....he has precedence so Im not complaining.

Weather would have been OK for initial flight but flight back today would have been a no go.

Looking forward to taking a real trip in the future though!

take the downtime to start studying for your IR - then you can do some real cross countries

Studying is done....money for the time is a different thing

Looks like a good first trip. All of mine since my private have been less than 100NM one way, but that length of trip will be just fine.

I'm now faced with a much longer one. The wife of an Army buddy of mine is pretty much on her death bed and is almost 700NM away. If the weather agrees I plan on flying there. If not I will take twice as long and drive it

This is what I'm worried about too. Sorry you didn't get to fly. My weather on Friday looks "perfect" but the coming back looks "horrible". So I don't know if I will fly or drive.
