So... I upgraded my Mac OS. Everything seemed fine, then I tried to create a new Excel spreadsheet. The text is upside down! Beyond that the lines are in groups bottom to top. Typing in a cell doesn’t mean that’s where it will stay where you put. other incomprehensible behavior.

My old spreadsheets print normally though.

is Microsoft trying to tell me my installed apps need to be upgraded to the cloud? Is there a switch I’m missing?

Can you provide a screen shot of what you are seeing?

I just read where an update of the software fixed others’ with a similar problem (theirs was USD and backwards.)

Well if you were upside down on your loans, you just got out of debt!

okay, not as good as playing the country music record backward...but I tried.

You have the Australian version.
Beat me to it:)

This is insane. Maybe MS are out to kill off Macs?

Google [mac os excel upsidedown] gets lots of hits. (miss brackets)

Says Update Excel

Spreadsheets are like babies.... they can be fussy as heck if they don't like the formula.

The simple solution worked; scroll to an area of the spreadsheet with all blank cells. Apparently it has to be done for each spreadsheet though. I suspect that sooner or later I'm going to have to upgrade to the cloud version of office. I already lost use of Outlook some time ago.

Having started three successful software companies in my weird life, I can say that in my opinion most software programmers have no concept of risk management. "If I wrote it, it will work..."

It was mostly fun working with all of them though. Thinking about the next five to ten years in that world makes me a little sad that I am retired. What a ride it's going to be.

I simply updated Office for Mac (not to the cloud version) and my spreadsheets no longer flip upside down when I open them. Whatever Apple did during their recent upgrades really messed with MS Office. No issues since I did the updates. My current version of Excel is 16.16.16 (191111).

Open up excel -> hit the Help tab -> Check for updates. That's the route I took to fix mine. I'm currently on Catalina 10.15.1 if that helps any.

Cheers,
Brian

FWIW, I'm on C 10.15.2. I upgraded Office and now Excel works excellently. Outlook still doesn't work with Mac OS. The scrolling solution was necessary for new spreadsheets as well, so I upgraded. Hopefully it will all continue to work

Where do you see the fun happening? AI? Cloudiness? Mobile?

OpenOffice or LibreOffice.....for years. Never looked back. Reads, edits, and saves in any MS file format you wish.
