I just got a Mobius Camera,

Heck of alot cheaper $75 than a Go Pro $300+ and much lighter. I know its no go pro quality but it will do just fine. I plan to use it mostly on my RC airplanes and Quadcopters so I needed light weight. I will use for PPL flying as well.

Does anyone have any feed back from their usage of a Mobius camera?

Looks interesting. I just emailed asking about how to tell if it's aimed right, and if there's any way to start and stop recording with it mounted to the ceiling behind me, or on the outside. I'll post their response . . .

Wow! A quick nighttime reply!

Thanks for your message.
1. You will have to point it based on your best estimate. You could put it in webcam mode attached to a computer if you really wanted an exact shot.
2. There is no remote.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks.

I would like to be able to check the aiming point before shooting, so I capture what I want. And starting and stopping enroute would be nice, so the memory card doesn't fill up halfway there . . .

Not shabby, I'd be interested to hear the PIREPS after you've had it from awhile.

So far the best budget camera I've found has been the gopro hero 3+ refurb at $280 with remote and whatnot.

You can still pick up a virb elite new for less than that. The only downside compared to your option is the battery life isn't nearly as good and you only get 30fps in 1080p. I love my virb... The GPS data is a neat feature to have!

I picked up a couple SJ4000 Wifi action cameras on Amazon. Total GoPro knock offs, but they do the job. Batteries last about 1.5 hours. 1080p @ 30fps. I think they're up to the 5000 or 6000 series now.

They're wifi enabled so you can see exactly where you're pointing them.

So it's roughly the functionality of the old gopros. I picked up my Hero2s right when the Hero3 came out for a similar price.

I will post so videos with the Mobius here. If you need something really light weight this is your camera. When I go GA flying next I'm going to velcro it to the top of my head set and shoot pilots view video.

Camera sunglasses are pretty cheap on ebay.

If you don't want to use the buttons on the camera, a workaround is to set it so it start/stops recording when external power is connected/disconnected.

Exactly. I did the exact same. Looks, feels, and smells like a gopro....but clearly isn't. Some of the specs aren't as good as gopro...as was mentioned, 1080p only shoots at 30fps, as opposed to the gopro 60fps. However, for the $69 price tag, i'm VERY happy with it.

Another plug for the SJ4000. Best cheap Chinese piece of stolen and copied electronic coolness I've ever owned. And it's not much heavier than a Möbius, really, plus it has an LCD screen on the back for aiming and playback.

One nice thing about the cheaper GoPros (no LCD) is that they can link to the GoPro app and use that to aim as well as control the camera and view videos which works reliably and fast and fixes the no lcd problem. If the Mobius camera has bluetooth or wifi on board then there may be a way to do something similar and fix the aiming problem.

Keep in mind the Mobius is suppose to be light weight and adding a bunch of additional features is just going to increase the weight. I'm not interested in all that. If so I already own a Go Pro. The Mobius weight is 1.5oz something like that and its perfect for my RC aircraft.

Hate to drag this off topic (but not if it gives me a good answer), do you guys have issues with the banana prop or jello effect when filming out over the nose? If so, how'd you fix it? Looking for an ND camera filter but can't find one made to fit the SJ and from what I've read, the GoPro ones won't fit.

"Jello effect" is usually from a poor mounting system that does not effectively eliminate vibration. There are some filters out there that can be used with the SJcams. Search on RCGroups for the SJ4000, grab a beer, some whisky, a comfy chair, and read. Lots of good info. Just don't EVER try to update the firmware.

It seems like it is because the camera has issues with the propeller AND the vibration. The other camera is mounted on the exact same mount, but facing inwards, and doesn't get jello.

I'll check out RCGroups. Thanks!!!!

Speaking of rcgroups, I always liked how they supported per-user blogs. Can xenforo do that?

RCgroups is my other forum Stomping grounds. Huge thread on Mobious over there.

I wonder how I can attach a Mobius to the outside of the airplane. With these Mobious camera's being so cheap I would like to have 4 to mount in various places on the airplane.
