Perhaps the reason that oil derrick is on the coast just below Santa Barbara (given the age of that map) is because the very first offshore oil well was in Carpenteria (S of S Barb). Chumash indians used naturally occuring asphaltum in their canoe building. Asphaltum seeps still are visible in SB county, in SLO county to the north, Ventura County to the south and as far inland as Kern County.

I know you wanted to know this stuff.:yesnod:

You mean this map isn't accurate either?
Not sure about that map, but this one is:

OMG, funny you should say that. Had dinner at a restaurant in Marina Del Rey last night with some colleagues.

We watched as a woman walked in with, well let's just say "melons" would be understating the facts. Beach balls would be more like it. With a tight, low-cut sweater. Even our waitress made a smart-*** comment about it - seems the entire restaurant staff was talking....

Bill:

Please bear in mind that I lived out there for a while, so I have some cultural context for this question -

What makes you so sure the Melon-Bearer was a woman?   :D :yikes:

Has anyone heard from Joe Areeda? He hasn't been on since March.
Joe and his wife will be stopping by the farm in a few weeks on their flight across the country. I'll tell him you guys asked about him and post an update. :)

I'll always appreciate Joe. Some of the folks on the west coast were trying to set up a left handed pilot's fly in and I really thought they meant folks that were left handed <g>.

Even though I'm ambed....uh amberd,,,,uh can fly with either hand, Joe gave me a hint that I really wouldn't have fit in!

Best,

Dave

I don't get it. What is "left handed?"
