This am we were told at church we had lost our local ems manager, patient and husband, plus pilot and one other in a fatal not far from the departure field.
I am told it was around 2am. They had been flying a 421 but I can't be sure what this crash was. Large flames seen at crash site. Weather has been wet lately but the asos shows nothing remarkable last night.
Any other info anyone has is requested, I am getting a lot of questions.
Thanks and prayers for those lost, their families.

Ah, man, that's not good. Medevac (aka "the good ones") seem to get more than their fair share.

I have heard that the wreckage was located upside-down not far from the field (they had been departing the area), with the gear extended and at least one shorn off or mangled. As in, perhaps after the first off-airport touchdown, the airplane flipped - then fire broke out with all inside.
Pretty somber here today, small towns where everyone knows someone involved.

Making an off-field emergency landing right after departure, at night... not a good situation; I'm sure the pilot did the best he could with a very limited deck. Hopefully the NTSB report / investigation will provide some closure / answers.

Lots to think about and not much time to do it. Was the gear ever retracted? If not, why not if he intended to fly? Was he distracted with abnormal/emer situation, or did he make a conscious decision? yada yada yada

Any cockpit can be a busy place to work when things start to unwind, a complex heavy piston twin at night can be even more so. RIP and condolences.

Report - albeit unsubstantiated - in local paper today says there were signs that one engine failed. I suspect someone overheard investigators at the crash site (small town, everyone talks) although it could certainly be much less firm info than that.
Memorial service today for our EMT.

I have had contact intermittently with Sharon in my time here, she developed our EMS into something to be proud of over the years - before taking the flight medic job in the last 18mo or so. She was very excited to take on this new endeavor.
Her husband is a maker of very fine quality bits and spurs, I visited his shop to get O2 a while back, and was amazed with his products.

Oh my; it's always harder when it's A) one of the good ones, and B) somebody you've met or know personally. My deepest condolences to all.
