Matching colors...

I don't know Nick, but this color matching tool says grey works. I guess it depends on what your shorts are? Boxers or briefs? (Cuzz I'm sure you were modeling the shirt and tie sans pants.)

White....and about 8" wide. Then get a bad hair cut and you are ready to have your own TV show as a preacher.

Men: Navy, grey or silver, gold.
Women: Pink, white or cream, blue.

Also with ties it is not just the color that matters but also the pattern on it.

For instance navy blue looks good with that color.

But a navy blue tie with this pattern:

Would not be a good match

But if you got a navy blue tie with this pattern on it:

That would look good. Both are florals but they make an entirely different impression.

Nick:

Is this for a public appearance in connection with any business or political matter?

If so, your maroon shirt stays home, in the closet, where it belongs, and you break out your crisp, starched, white dress shirt with a nice maroon-plus-a-pattern tie.

Sheesh. Next thing you know you guys will be telling him to leave the leather pants at home for formal events...

Hmmm. I don't make too many public appearances, but when I dress up for whatever, I prefer either a blue shirt (and I have a really cool tie that goes well with a blue shirt) or a dark red/maroon shirt (with an equally cool tie).

I really don't like the look of white dress shirts any more - Only time I ever wear those now is for the rare musical gig.

Is this why I don't have a job? White shirt still required uniform? :dunno:

So this really cool tie that you wear with you maroon shirt....details....

Gaah... Now that you ask, I cannot find my maroon/burgundy dress shirt, nor the tie. :(

Here's another maroon-shirt-compatible tie, against a black shirt:

And here's the blue shirt and the associated tie that I really like:

And speaking of my dislike of white dress shirts, I realized that I no longer have any. :D Black, Burgundy, Grey, or Blue. I think they're much better-looking.

EDIT: Warning: I am a fashion retard. But I wear the stuff I think makes me look good and feel good about the way I look, so be it. :)

...blue's OK, but white, with starch, is the deal.

In DC, that's about the uniform (no starch for me, however). Pinstripes or subtle vertical stripes that match the white or blue are OK, too.

White's also the easiest: a dark suit, a crisp white shirt and a decent tie will make any man look good and there's almost no thought involved. That's a good thing for guys who need to wear a suit every day and don't like worrying about matching colors.

I have some "motorcycle" boots from Italy, what should I wear with them? Most of my pants are the standard business casual uniform. (since this is the clothing thread).

Nick, what did you decide upon?

Wool skirt that goes to a few inches above the boots and a sweater. Probably black. A classic look around the city this year for the ladies. The office dwellers are wearing a dressier boot instead of the motorcycle boot.

Or you could do the skinny jeans tucked in look with the long sweater ala

The extent of my "does it match?" questioning is in regards to my socks. Of course a couple years ago, I threw out all my socks, and replaced them. All 30 pairs are exactly the same style, make, thickness, and height. So, I don't even have to ask myself that question anymore. :)

Yes, 30 pairs. That way I only have to do laundry once a month :D

Thanks Scott. I haven't worn a skirt in ages - well since summer anyway. I hate being cold in the winter! I'll have to drag something out though...

 I've done the same inventory building with underwear. I keep in excess of a one month supply. I have to go out and invest in few more packages.

And I have two washers! I usually have something soaking in one or both for a night (or four). :D

I have a Brooks Brothers pin-striped suit. I wore it for high school graduation(1962); wore it as Baseball Commissioner in "Damn Yankees"(early 1970s); wore it as banker David Bascombe in "Carousel"(mid 1980s); wore it as a gangster in "Kiss Me, Kate"(mid 1990s); as Charlie Chaplin in independent motion picture "Ghost Writer"(1994) ; and to the funeral(July 2008) of my high school principal. Do you suppose it's time to replace it? I'd hate to "Good-Will" a fine fabric.

HR :o)

I have(had?) a green plaid wool "Heb Tarlick" suit that a tailor customer of mine gave me (a client left it.) It worked well one Halloween when I wore it with a plaid western shirt and the leopard tie after I drove to Maxwell Street specifically to buy the worst tie I could find. Even the guys in the store selling it thought I was nuts.

The best part? That day I went to Hyman's to pick up my new clothes being altered. Gordon tried to be as subtle as he could quietly suggesting I look at at some other suits and ties he could show me. I said, "What day is today?" :D:rofl:
