Masters of the Air

Oh, and I forgot. The writing.

Yep, very disappointed in Red Tails. So much CGI it was basically like watching a cartoon. It's not hard to use real WWII aircraft even today. Just requires money and someone who understands the complexities of aerial photography.

Didn't Spielberg say he made red tails to be cartoonish on purpose?

Red Tails was the only aviation themed movie I haven't been able to sit through. I wanted it to be good but it just didn't cut it.

The High and the Mighty
Island in the Sky

Both great.

Don't want to hijack thread but has anyone seen 1941?

I only managed to get through part of Red Tails, it was pretty bad. I'm hoping Tom Hanks can rein that kind of crap in though, he's a huge WWII buff isn't he? So he'd want to do it right. And it's Tom Hanks, America can trust Tom Hanks can't we? :)

One of my guilty pleasures.

The scene where "Wild Bill Kelso" slips his P-40 to a landing on a two-lane road then taxis up to the gas station is the strongest argument for NOT using CGI that you could ask for.

Ron "Come back, plane!" Wanttaja

Just finished reading the book. I hope the series shows the stupidity of the American generals.

What wasn't wrong with Red Tails?

The acting. The directing. The special effects. The plot.

Yep.

My main beef was that the airplanes didn't look real at all. Even something big-ish like a DC-3 would touch, bounce, and then when it touched again it would stop pretty much instantaneously. It looked like they were using tiny model airplanes.

Oh, and then there was the god-awful contrived love story Hollywood formulaic plot.

I'm no movie critic, normally I can just sit back and enjoy even a "bad" movie but Red Tails was horrible.

Actually, Disney's "Planes" was WAY more realistic than Red Tails. The animators did their homework.

Hell, the physics in "How to Train Your Dragon" were much better than Red Tails too.
