Marine Sets Divorce Record

Please, I have 11 divorces alone just from my time in Pattaya Beach, Thailand.

I remember girls that would hang out at the gate wanting to marry a soldier just to get the medical benefits...

And a lot of the guys went for it.

So, true story.

I went to PLDC (first level Army NCO academy) as an E4, and, as one of the few Infantry in the class I assumed a platoon leader position for the student company. It was a mixed group, and one of the women, well, liked me. And she was married. No, we didn't. I won't say the tension wasn't there but it never happened.

A week after graduation I had to report to the brigade commander (full bird colonel) with my sergeant, and I got a short, brief, congratulatory remark for making honor grad. The next 45 minutes was a lecture of how military men messing with married women leads to various afflictions up to suicide.

I was sent curtly on my way. On the way out, the brigade command sergeant major said "Spec four Arrow, the only reason the colonel didn't fry your ass is because it would be really embarrassing to out an honor grad."

Oh yeah they did. Some fell hard. My buddy did, even after the CO tried to talk sense into him, and then they divorced not long after returning state side. That was one of the first briefings we received after arriving in Korea. But, some marriages worked out and they're still together.

And then there was the free condoms they had in the Commander's office. We used to drive by the dispensary and there'd be a line of guys on Mondays waiting for penicillin shots, "clapping" as we drove by. Good times.

WTF? Did the BDE CDR and CSM think you were gay?

That's infantry for you.

Heh heh no, but the brigade commander was a very religious man. This was during a time when they took fraternization fairly seriously.
