Lost my FAA Bill of Sale

"THAT" form may not be required, because the FAA will except a hand written bill of sale if it meets their requirements.
Years ago they would not.

Even today, it's silly not to use it and take the risk of having some clerk at the Registry question it. Even the complicated deals typically call for its use in the contract. The same for the FAA security agreement - the bank will create its own security agreement but also use the the FAA one for recording purposes.

Plane is locked in a trailer. It's not going to get out and screw anyone over.

While I have no issue with your approach whatsoever, I can dream up liability situations. some kids could steal it, put it together, try to fly in a school field, kill themselves and a bunch of other childrens. Oh the humanity.

Ridonkulous! I suppose I should acquire liability insurance on my power tools, my bicycle, my BB gun and my wife as well, just in case of stupid thieves?

You DO have that; read your homeowner's policy.
 
Wow. This entire thread was filled with some interesting stuff but that was unexpected.
 
Regarding the bill of sale. Sent the link to the original owner so that he can fill it out again, I can file it with the FAA and correct the ownership record there. It's sad to watch a dream die, but I think it is time to pass her on to a pilot who will fly her.
