Northern tool carries the stops and ground reels. We are looking into a complete vynal wrap for our self serve pump. It's actually about the same price as all of the individual stickers and re-paint.
How much are you looking at for the vinyl wrap? Sounds easier but I'm pretty sure I'd have to at least get rid of all the built up paint and stickers and stuff for it to look smooth and nice. I'll check out Northern Tool and see what they've got.
American Nozzle and Decal in OKC should have everything you need.
Even closer! I'll definitely look at those, thanks.
What is your budget? The starting point is determining the current material condition and defining the project scope. You've done some of that by noting the need for a hose stop and reel repair. Some of the rust may be a problem so the unit will have to be opened to determine condition and treatment. Don't forget to repaint the posts as part of the project.
Was actually hoping to get a feel for how much a project like this would cost so that I could submit it to my boss as an improvement idea. Only problem is that I have never really redone/restored/resurfaced anything before. Stickers are easy, the clamp on the end of the bonding line was pretty self explanatory, the rest I'm not sure about.
I had to open the JetA pump and completely untangle the bonding line because it went off the track - the plastic cover that surrounds the reel looks like it's been cracked and broken for a while and I'm guessing the lack of tension in the line isn't sufficient to keep it on the reel inside. I have maybe 3-4 feet of cable that gets left outside the pump housing when I pull it out and let it go. Rather than trim down the cable that's in good condition, I'd prefer to try to adjust the springs to make it retain at least a little tension after retracting.
Laundry list:
-New stickers
-New paint on pump (remove old paint probably, looks like it has been painted over damaged stickers etc)
-Adjust reel tension down a little on the 100LL pump, up a lot on the JetA pump
-Repaint collision prevention poles (great idea!)
-Check for rust? (not at work for a few days, will check then)
That's about what I see needs doing for now. The cable on the 100LL is green and insulated, the cable on the Jet-A is not insulated.
As for paint removal on the pump, I imagine you'd have to use a sandblaster or something along those lines? Painting over again I think would end up looking pretty iffy is why I ask. And for the poles, with the relatively light paint damage, would you recommend just painting over the whole thing or touching up spots? I don't think it matters as much with the poles considering they're poles. How do you deal with rust? I imagine it's not as easy as just painting over it.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
I've seen a lot of airports use a tennis ball for a grounding cable shock absorber. They seem to work fairly well.
I'd think a racquet ball would be even better since it doesn't have a moisture absorbing cover.
I put a washer on the 100LL cable as a stopper but it ends up coming back so fast when people let it go that it bows the front wall. I think the rubber stuff looks more professional, but a tennis ball has a lot more give in it than a metal washer. How did you see the tennis balls on the line, run through once and free-hanging on the line or?
If you are branded (Shell, Phillips, etc), your fuel supplier will probably give you the labels.
We use Crown Products in Tulsa for most of our fuel system component purchases.
Another great company, thanks! Pretty sure we are branded for Phillips so maybe I'll ask my boss to get on that trail. I would, but I'm not sure who to call at Phillips about that kind of thing or if I have the ordering authority.
