since someone was impressed with short competition...

04V, 7,957'. Ground elevation is 7,850' watch out for the Twinkie parked alongside the runway...

Seems as if I've been there... once...

But have you landed there? (I think Blanche has...)

I parked out on the Edwards lake bed once to watch one of the early Space Shuttle landings.

Me and about 23,000 other people. Think Burning Man without the tents and the exposed breasts.

The dry lake bed. I got stopped by the MPs when I made a wrong turn on base and drove onto the paved runway, many, many, many years ago.

I wuz referring to Edwards. Dunno which runway they used for the fly-in when Blanche was there.
Like the photo, they drew a runway on the dry lake bed. The paved runways are miles away. Shuttle landed on the dry lake bed. There are 2 dry lake beds used as runways.

The Susitna River in the fall. Like a long, twisting gravel runway with puddles. Love it for bouncing around and tossing sticks for the dog.

I have landed on the Alvord Desert it is 12 miles long by 7 miles wide.

So you're saying you wore a bikini top, but got a sun burn everywhere else?

I live alongside a 3000' grass strip. It's surrounded by woods and tall trees. Most everyone uses well under half, and many use less than 1000' easily. It's at 1040'MSL.

:lol::lol::lol:

Long, flat and featureless. What more can you want for a runway..??

Runway??? o_O
Kansas is actually just one giant emergency landing field. :p
Well it was. Until they started blanketing the place with windmills...

1980s, Central America, technically a dirt road, but about two miles of it was straight as a rope, and clear on the sides. In a C-130E, so we didn't need most of it. Also a beach, same part of the world, though does sand count as dirt???

48U, only comes in at 7182 but that name has got to count for something.

Flown over it but didn't bother stopping. It's tough to give up the altitude...

Ask Everskyward how we climbed after departing 04V.

The big question is,, How short can you land??

Lol. It was so Aliens from Jupiter would have a place to land if they came to Earth. Not a private airport named by some UFO wacko. It was the City Council who done it. It was a stunt to promote tourism. Here's another one, Grayland Intergalactic. Private and has an Identefier. IG fer cryin out loud. 43IG. Can't find much about it. I suspect some eccentricity.

The cover story is working. You should be there on alternate Tuesdays at midnight if you'd like to meet the aliens. They are giving us chemtrail technology in return for certain "organic" products.

So many interesting stories hinted at in this thread. C'mon.... details. :)

Mine isn't terribly interesting: I've been asking for a while if there are any dirt (forget about grass) strips near where my mom lives in SW Kansas. Just as I got a lead on one - it happened. The strip is pretty much a road in the middle of nowhere. Went to call the farmer that owned the land - arrested for growing weed(!)

So the rest of my family in the area is asking why I just don't set it down on one of the county roads... Not my first choice ...

In MissourI, it's Bates City, Missour's own aircraft bone yard. The planes make their last landing on a 4400 ft gravel runway, the "road" in the photo.
