Traveling to Las Vegas this weekend. Hoping to take a CFI with me and do a little flying. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks Bill D.

Late lunch buffet at the Bellagio
99 cent shrimp cocktails downtown

Don't hit a 12 unless the dealer is showing an ace, face, or 10.

Place the 6 and the 8, never bet the center of the table or the Big6 or Big8.

Hiking: Red Rock Canyon, turtleheads peak trail. 2000 ft elevation gain. One will want to die on the way up but will love the view once finally up there. 11 miles round trip fm the entrance. About 5 from the closest trailhead.

Also hiking: take the trail from the Lake Mead visitors center to the Hoover Dam. It is pretty flat and follows the railroad used to haul stuff in to build the dam. About 8 miles.

Helicopter rides avail over the Hoover Dam from the nearest casinos parking lot.

Boulder dam brewing company in boulder city. Excellent beer.

Late to post, sorry.
If its flying you want West Air Aviation at VGT does this a lot. Visiting pilots want a "seeing eye CFI" for some local flying to the Grand Canyon or around the lakes/mountains.

Basic strategy calls for hitting a 12 against dealer's 2 or 3, stay against dealer's 4, 5, 6, hit aginst dealer's 7-A

Exceptions, plus 5 count or more against 2 stay, less than plus 5 Hit.

Against dealer's 3, plus 2 count or more stay, less, hit.

This is the correct play, math doesn't lie. Unfortunately, I have seen more people get ****ed off when someone does this. Don't hit that, you'll take the dealers bust card!!!

If people just used basic blackjack strategy they would do a lot better, but they don't, and that's why we have all the pretty lights.

The pretty lights are paid mostly by the machines, roulette table is pretty good for the house as well.

The probability of the dealer drawing a card that busts is the EXACT same for any unturned card. People that get ****y at somebody who "takes the dealer's card" don't understand math.

plus 5 count? Plus 2 count?

Speak english…. I'm an amateur at this card stuff…

That's why it's generally I have more fun playing at the $25 tables. There can be some real sphincters at $100 and up seats that take it all too seriously.

A good dealer makes all the difference.

Baccarat is cool, though. You get to sit at the roped off table, and look like you really know what you're doing, and here's really no skill involved. You bet " player" or " bank". The commissions are high though.

I think I need a trip to the Borgata in the near future:D

It is amazing how mad will get over this too.
Another to tell them is it is not a team sport. I really do not care about you hand I just care about mine.

Probably the reason I play Craps. Everybody is "on the same team" and all trying for the same goal (except for the Don't Pass guys, and they usually keep their mouthed shut).

By far, the most fun in a casino is a craps table that has a hot shooter. 20 people standing around, more spectators, all happy, hollering, high-fiving, and enjoying. You never see that much fun at a 21 table or a slot machine.

Except for the quiet guy in the corner playing the don't come/don't pass line.

I agree, it is one of the funnest and highest odds games in a Casino. I love it.

I learned on the quarter crap tables downtown where the backline (to get the odds) is $3.75. So everything is a multiple of $3.75 at the casinos on the strip. Paid for the hotel, the car and the food for 3 days at one of the back tables at Mandalay Bay in about 30 minutes. Guy next to me wanted to know why I was walking away when I was winning....Duh.

Those are damn good odds. Sadly most people don't understand how good the back line bet is. The big casinos usually offer 3-4-5 on the back line. That's why many just put an amount equal to the frontline, if at all, sad.

The thing about craps is you can get a lot of cash on the table real quick without realizing it.

My wife and I were on a cruise to the Bahamas. I played a little craps, gave her some cash and went off to play some blackjack. I figured I didn't have much to worry about, seeing as the bride isn't much of a gambler. Twenty minutes later, I hear her yelling from across the room. She's got like $2,500 on the table, most of the points covered and rolling her 14th pass...

There's a couple pretty good iPad apps to learn the game. Rolling up to the table for the first time can be a little intimidating because the game goes so fast. For most of us, anyway.

If you want to have fun with them, look them straight in the eye and say, "High limit tables are over there [point]." This works especially well at the 100-250 limit tables.

Best strategy is not to play blackjack. Sure, if you can count cards, you can cut the house's edge. But to make any money at it, you have to vary your bets so wildly that the house can see it. Unless you are working with a team, you aren't going to do much that much beyond statistical variance. The house will see that and perma-ban you before you make anything worthwhile.

I don't play the house. I play other people. At the poker tables, the horrible play more than makes up for the rake, plus negative variance.

I sat for four hours in the poker room at Aria. Ended up $15 before I got pulled away to dinner. Cheap entertainment but it's hard to get rich!

Didn't go flying in Vegas but I have my flying planned out for next time. http://westairaviation.com/ They have a great staggerwing that you can fly for $495 for a few hours and see all the sights. I'm doing that next time.

Went to Vegas few years ago for a weekend celebrating my 40th. I was never more happy to get on a plane home. Don't get me wrong, I had fun, but I was ready to get back on the porch.

If you play good basic strategy at a good single deck table (there is only one casino left in Las Vegas) the house only has a .18% edge over the player.
A good counter can swing his edge significantly over the house.

I live in Vegas, but honestly, don't get to the Strip too much...too many tourists! It's pretty expensive as well these days.

As for flying in and stuff to do, some has already been mentioned. I'm out of North Las Vegas (KVGT) and if you fly in, I'd recommend it. Just minutes from the Strip and hotels/Casinos.

Red Rock and Hoover Dam are a must. There's also a day trip to the Dept of Energy....waaaay out into the desert. Nuke craters and stuff. It's lesser known but I'm told it's cool.

If you are good at it you get a perma-ban.

If you are not a pig they'll usually let you play, a pit boss has given me that lecture.:hairraise:

A mile walk off the Strip on the UNLV campus is the National Atomic Test Museum. Really interesting community of people here.
