HI All:

I was thinking of taking my IFR cross country from Hays, Kansas to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

I was looking up COS in the AOPA airport directory and noticed they had landing fees.

I am totally new to this. Is this for a 172? How do I find out how much? I just wanted to fly there, fuel, and leave. Is the landing fee waived if you buy fuel?

Seriously, if I have to pay to fly there I'll do my approach, declare a missed approach, and go to Ellicot.

Thanks;

Terry

Colorado Springs (COS) does not have landing fees for GA aircraft. I fly there all the time in my Tiger. Go to Colorado Aviation for fuel. Just taxi to the "Discount Fuel" sign. They are a great FBO and have the least expensive fuel. No ramp fees, landing fees, parking fees, state fees, etc.

There can be different fees. If you are talking about airport landing fees, last time I was in COS, they didn't charge GA. If you are talking about FBO fees: there can be ramp fees, parking fees, etc. Most of the time, these are waived if you purchase some minimal amount of fuel, but not always. The busier airports charge the most.

Check Airnav.com for COS and see what they say. Call the FBO and ask them if you're unsure.

Best,

Dave

The airport directories are not very accurate in this regard, many times the notes are a far cry from reality. As Dave says, call the FBO.
(I always feel really chintzy when I call for fuel prices, landing fees - any tips?)
"we're arriving tomorrow (use the plural to make yourself sound important) around 4, can you order us a limo if the boss needs one? Oh, btw, just wanna make sure you have fuel - hey what is it going for these days? Landing fee waived with top-off?" "yes ma'am. Ohh, probably about 13 gallons. No, 100LL. It's a 172 ma'am. Uh-huh, thats a cessna. "

I was there last week. No landing fee, no ramp fee, no parking fee and reasonable fuel prices.

For what its worth, ABQ shows a landing fee too, but I've never seen one. I suspect they charge the air carriers something.

I'll second this recommendation- these guys acted like I was long-lost family (family whom they *liked,* I hasten to add before EdFred makes some smart-ass remark).

Very friendly, good fuel prices. Rental car was at the plane before the prop stopped.

Good disclaimer about family......and EdFred too! :D

If you want a smaller, GA only airport that is non-towered, Meadow Lake is nice (00V). However, COS is VERY GA friendly. No reason not to go there.
