Lancair pilot takes shot at 58 year old record

Man alive, I wish I could be there at KONT when he arrives. What a hoss!

Heh.

I could buy a ticket on Southwest, departing in an hour, and be there. Over a grand Round-Trip.

I'm not going out there but I am staying up to see he lands.. what is his eta btw?

He is as close to me right now as anytime in his trip, about 60mi north.
Has slowed to 160kts, I bet he is getting tossed around in that turbulence (Mod all the way up). Oh, and someone on BT said a report of severe, over ELP at 9K (CRJ)

that late?
he's passing Tucson 9:30cst, looks like 2 more hrs should do it

He’s past Blythe, now. He should be landed and feted (if not fetid) in well under an hour, as it’s only 145 NM from Blythe to Ontario.

And, how can it be that there is no LiveATC atKONT?

This is so cool.

Nothing ordinary here.

Very nicely done!

That’s awesome! Great accomplishment - I’ve read somewhere that there have been more people in space, than the total who’ve been onboard ASEL circumnavigations.

Here is my estimate of the flight stats. Sorry it's an image but I didn't have much success pasting the Excel table. I think the slowest that would break the record was about 202 hours, so 20 hours spare:)

That was quite an accomplishment that Bill pulled off. When you've got great planning, great skills, and some good equipment, it's amazing what someone can do.
