L-3 Lynx ADS'b is just been announced

"Rule-compliant" ... so not certified... and announced mere days after the FAA allowed them... interesting... wonder who's related to whom at both "companies"... LOL...

I paid less for my 1st glider in 1996.
And it is almost 50% of the value of my current glider.

Brian

Didn't see any spec on how much power it uses or minimum voltage to see if it would work ok with battery.
So I will likely be only Primary return visible for a while longer.

I couldn't find a price on the remote mount GTN-2000, which is the way I would go. The GTN-9000 MSRP'd at $6750! which as another poster said is not a cheap fix. The Garmin box is cheaper, I think. I had high hopes, oh well. Fortunately, I can fly to most places that I want to without entering mode C airspace.

The lowest end unit wasn't priced, might come in around $1200 and hook to your transponder. Looks like you'd need a tablet (PED) and something like a GDL-39 to complete the setup. So maybe 2-3k installed?

You thinking these aren't and/or won't be for certified A/C? In the glossy I only saw words like "rule compliant."

Only $6800 plus install cost. Practically free...
But it's a transponder, traffic display, ads-b in and out. Seems like a reasonable, even cheap, price for everything that's included.

I think a Waas GPS position also. Not full blown unit though.

I don't have a certified GPS, I have an old Narco AT 50 mode c, I do not have weather or traffic units, I have nothing Garmin.
Doesn't look to bad to me.
If I can use my I Fly 700 with this as my display it may reasonable, others with more current up to date equip.probably not.
I have a friend that works over there at the factory,I might give him a call and see if this might work well for me.
Maybe see if they have a scratch and dent unit;)

Am interested in what their "bare minimum to be legal in 2020" unit will cost. Maybe it will put a stop to the ADS-B "whining".

I doubt it'll be cheaper than this.....

King KT-74 $2,595 plus install

How can people ***** that ADSB is going to kill GA?

I just had my cam/lifters start spalling, and that's probably going to cost me $6k. Just a random event.

$2500 is very low cost in the aviation world.

From Aircraft Spruce website:
The KT 74 requires a certified WAAS GPS antenna. The unit must therefore contain a GPS receiver. Is this correct?
No, the KT 74 does not have a WAAS GPS as it is only a transponder. You will need to wire the KT 74 to a WAAS certified GPS to be ADS-B out compliant.

But then, it IS certified. And a WAAS-capable GNS430 can be found on eBay fairly easily.

And the cost to buy and install a used 430W is...

$6k?

So now we're at a $6k GPS + $2.5K King transponder, plus $1k to install the King transponder. So the whole project comes in at just under $10k.

and then you'd have a flyable GPS....vs that lil postage stamp looking thingy.

A lesson for anyone shopping for ADS-B...make sure the package contains *everything*, or you know what else you need to add. Antennas for these things are a bit pricy, and some packages don't include them.

I just spoke with a tech from L-3.
In addition to the Lynx unit($6,800) you need a gps antennae ,you can use your old transponder antennae, a wifi option will hook you up to your Ipad or an Android tablet, you use the same alt encoder you already have.
I checked with I Fly (Adventure Pilot) they are as we speak, working on interfacing on their moving map.
So the Lynx will give me a new certified Mode s Transponder, a wass gps position needed for ADS B ,ADS B in and out, weather, traffic, and will be able to view on a tablet or better yet overlaid on my I Fly.
