I was on the line when they flew a different G-V in from California for him to look over. They flew in on a Citation X.


"Controversial televangelist Kenneth Copeland was all smiles on the tarmac near his Fort Worth, Texas mega church as he took delivery of his new $3million Gulfstream V private jet.

'This is a big deal, this is a big plane' he says in a video posted on his ministry's website, before grinning into the lens and asking viewers, 'do you see this? do you see this? I hope so, you bought it. You and Jesus.'

Copeland, who is the head of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries and has his own TV show, bought the jet off Tyler Perry."

Copeland won't be flying his G5 just yet though, because it needs about $2.5million worth of upgrades before it is ready.

Then the church is trying to raise another $17million for 'the construction of a new hangar, upgrading the existing runway, and purchasing special GV maintenance equipment'.

My aviation related rant:

I was taxiing in at PDK in a Cessna 401 once (around 2000ish) and I got cut off on a taxi way by a purple Bentley. The fancy car swung right in front of me forcing me to get on the brakes fairly aggressively and pulled up to a parked jet. A man got out and walked onto the purple carpet and got on the plane. I was a little upset and told ground control about it. They told me they would forward on my complaint and told me it was "Creflo Dollar being Creflo Dollar". I didn't know who that was and looked it up later. I was shocked he was a televangelist and that his "congregation" would just give him that kind of money and that he would willingly blow that kind of money on Bentley's and jets.

But one day....all of Ken's folks will stand before Him and make an account for how they used His resources. ;)

They're just "improving" the "gospel". That Jesus character was a crazy socialist anyways. They can't bring that "commie" message down to that vote-against-my-own-interest, Freedom-Fries lovin' demographic on a Sunday. They'll get lynched! Now, put another dolla' on that plate or paypal me, and I'll tell you what you want to hear. :D

Creflo now has a G650 for a cool 70 million and the Bentley is for security reasons, and how about them suits he wears $$$

When I was flying out of St Pete, I was amazed at how many Televangelists had jets with their names on the side, and these were people you never heard of

Well I’m all for spreading the word, I have nothing bad to say about televangelism. The problem I do have is the notion I get of their overall motives. Sometimes I get the feeling that they’re in it for the wrong reasons.

Reminds me of my daughter's friend when she was in HS. Her friend's father was a minister and this girl was dressed with the latest clothes. They even allowed her to have a boob job, in HS! On Sundays he made his kids "dress down" so his congregation wouldn't wonder what he was spending the offerings on.

Hey, don't forget Jim and Tammy Fae Bakker and the PTL Club. Don't think they ever bought a jet, but they were really into real estate. Jim went to jail, BTW.

I've told this story before:

When I was based in Harrison, AR, it was before Branson built their airport, and Harrison was the closest airport to Branson that could handle private jets. Almost every weekend there would be numerous televangelists Jets sitting on the ramp. They'd come in to pitch their chit to the gullible old farts at Branson. It was freaking sickening.

And then there's the Assemby of God folks (headquartered in Springfield, MO) who send their leaders out on their private jet to visit rich members on their deathbeds. They try to convince them to change their wills. The CFI who worked with me on my instrument training was the corporate pilot for the AG, and a devout AG follower...until he figured out what they were doing on all those trips he flew.

Page T-6 of AOPA's Pilot has an article by Ron Rapp in which he describes flying a poodle, alone, across the pond in a G-IV.
At first he thought what a horrible waste.
Then he got to thinking about how it was paying wages for crews, dispatchers, maintenance, FBOs, accountants, hotels, rent cars, GA manufacturers, etc etc and found himself thinking differently about it.

So, ignoring the whole evangalism-scam issue (which I am in full agreement with)...
if rich people want to spend their scads of money on GA, I am fully on board with that. Better than a thousand other things.
 
They are without a doubt scam artists but if you are dumb enough to be scammed by their nonsense, you deserve it.

The biggest issue I have is that there are a lot of elderly folks being taken advantage of.
I have an elderly fam member right now who is about to be gently given a talk about the numerous and growing small amounts being sent out each month, in response to those regular (and now rapidly accelerating in volume) mail pleadings (you know, the ones with photos of cleft-lipped kids and worse).

Hey, those flights are fully deductible expenses under "Fund Raising."
 
This thread reminds me of the NTA discussion to do a mass arrival at T41.
 
I am a fan of <insert deity here> but I don't pretend to know his will. I believe certain things that I keep to myself and damned if @Cooter's post last year about the odds of our individual existence didn't get saved in my favorite bookmark's folder but Televangelists are the WWF of religion. Full of ****, pretending and praying on folks that are praying for help.

Glad this guy got his jet but quit pretending to be a profit. Humans can have a god without believing in people that are scamming them.

They are 'churches', all income related to their 'mission' is exempt from taxes to start with. Not much to deduct from.

It's not just the televangelists who have their hand in the collection basket. We have a couple of local churches with aircraft ranging from Meridian to a GII. Of course, all this flying around is for the glory of God and to support the mission of the church.....
 
Ken Copeland Ministries has a nice airport (former NAS). They list it as "public access" so as to protect its airspace from encroaching structures, but I hear they ain't all that friendly if you show up.
