Keeping the Location Secret

When I was in Homer City (yes that is a place in PA) and asked for directions to my grandfathers farm, the guy actually said "Take this road out to where the 4-H club used to be and turn left." Fortunately, I had walked to the 4-H club enough that I recognized the turn. I just couldn't remember which road out of town to take. All that was on the corner were trees and four stacks of cynderblocks.

I live in the Orlando, FL area and have all my life. Orlando has grown and changed significantly since (mumble, mumble, 1959) when I was born. It's more than 10 times the size. My older sister and I have discussed writing a "directions for natives" sort of book based entirely on those sorts of things just as a joke.

When you have a form that says "Do not write below this line" do you put "OK" there?

When I used to work as an office manager, I was always surprised at the number of invoices I would receive (mostly from consultants, sometimes from big companies) lacking payment instructions. I can send a check, but I need a name to put on the check and an address.

Half the posts in POA have a "secret location" as people believe that airport identifiers are somehow an efficient way to tell a story.

But airport identifiers are not ambiguous and can be easily looked up. Arlington on the other hand, could be in several different states.

And, I, personally usually put the airport name with the identifier in parentheses. But that's just me.

What is the value of sending your reader somewhere else to look up identifiers?
