So here I am. Just (re) discovered this community! Awesome.

Sorry for the confusion. Chinese company Tencent is estimated to have about 5 percent stake. But I heard somewhere they were involved in censorship. I've had enough of the NBA fiasco, ticks me off. I tried to delete this thread. No joy.

Basically a Chinese company purchased a stake in Reddit, another social media site.

Since the purchase, company leadership has slowly been making the site more appealing to corporate investors and sanitizing it.

It’s going the way of numerous other similar sites with not enough capital to pay anybody and no idea how to commercialize and control internet content. Other than ads, that is. The usual ads that don’t promote anything you’re actually interested in.

Better sites than Reddit have died that death. They don’t really die either. They just morph into less and less usefulness.

Cool places on the Net go corporate and become lame. Normal progression.

I thought Tencent had 10% (see what I did there?). $300million investment on $3billion valuation.

Probably higher really. There’s no way Reddit is worth $3B. They’re just cash to keep the thing afloat longer.

Whoa, now... wait a minute here! Isn't "re-discovering" something actually called a "life hack," at least according to the Millennials? (Rolling my wrinkly old man eyes, shaking my head- oops SMH, and chasing muthapluckas off my lawn. I mean tiedown.)

Life hack? I thought it was “one weird trick”.

Are you sure you re-discovered the right message board? Quite bizarre...

Why would the Chinese government want to spend money on Reddit, when their shills can post propaganda there for free?

It’s quite further spread, one silver lining in the whole Hong Kong protest is it really shows who’s in chinas pocket.

Like the Hong Kong and Japan patch being removed from the top gun jacket

Or the NBAs huge pro china push

china doesn’t want a debate, they want to control the conversation via censorship.

Just like tiananmen square, they didn’t send in politicians to debate the governments position with the protestors, they sent in tanks and guns to eliminate the other voice.

Same reason everyone sees the big government stopping for one brave man on most searches

Yet the images of the aftermath were all but washed away, much like the aftermath of the protestors.
