Is this a Pontiac W7 engine or a WZ?

It's the difference between a 1969 Pontiac 6.6L or a Pontiac 1970 5.7L
The partial VIN on the engine isn't even close to the car's VIN.

Obviously, inquiring minds want to know.

That’s A 7
Thanks. I was afraid of that, and I thought so, too.

I'm no expert, but the car in question seems to have a numbers matching price on it. Not only did they swap engines, but they also went to a newer, smaller engine, so, that lowers the value, too. It is a gorgeous car and would get me lots of kicks on Route 66.

Looking at pictures of the underneath, it's completely rust free, has a Hotchkiss frame strengthening kit and two anti-sway bars. I wouldn't be surprised if it has upgraded control arms, but I can't tell from the pictures.

It also has an aftermarket A/C. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Vintage Air.

I stumbled over this car when I was looking for a Firebird with a 6.6L/400 CID engine.

Decisions, decisions.

For older vehicles this is not uncommon.

Scams are common in classic cars, especially the old muscle cars, whether intentional or unintentional.

And not numbers matching really doesn't hurt the value of most cars, unless it is something like a '69 427 Corvette or '70 426 Hemi Barracuda

Thanks for the information. Still, it's obviously not the original size engine.
