Is there something related to aviation in all 50 states?

Other than airports, of course! :smile:

It is a lifetime goal of mine to visit all 50 states. I'd like to combine this goal with my aviation addiction, so I'd like to find sights to see that are aviation-related in all 50 states.

I think there are the obvious-
WI - EAA
NC - Kitty Hawk
VA - Air and Space Museum

What are some others???
 
PA, home of Lycoming (w/ a museum) and Orignal Home of Piper, currently a musuem and a yearly fly-in called Sentimental Journey when all the pipers built there are called home.
NY, Wright Curtis musem
NJ, There is a small Muesuem at the Cape May airport
FL, Current home of Piper
KS, Cessna, Beach, Ameila Earhart's birthplace, etc.

Maryland has a large NASA facility in Greenbelt, and Lockheed-Martin is headquarted in Bethesda.

Colorado, in addition to the AFA, also has the highest airport [I think] in the U.S. - Leadville, roughly 10,000'.

Virginia also has Wallops Island, near Chincoteague, a lot of rockets are launched from there.

NYC even has the Intrepid.

Edit: And Rich and I hit "Post" at the same time. :)
 
Be a long list from California.

Louisiana has the Weddell - Williams, 8th Air Force, and Chennault aviation museums among other things.

Tennessee has the Beechcraft Heritage Museum better known as the "Staggerwing museum."

National Museum of the USAF is in Ohio.

In addition to Kitty Hawk there is a Wright Brothers Memorial in Dayton, Ohio too.

And NY also has the National Soaring Museum in Elmira.

And there's always Torrey Pines in So Cal

From what I've seen, there are aviation museums in most if not all states. I know of one (used to be two) in the Minneapolis area. An exception might be Hawaii unless you consider the Arizona Monument.
 
NM: Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, White Sands Space Harbor, the International Spaceport too.
 
Of the places I've been that I don't think have been mentioned (or I just missed):

VA: NASM's Udvar Hazy at Dulles, Virginia Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach.
KS: Almost all of the big manufacturers have stuff there, and the ultimate: the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center!
AZ: the boneyards at Davis-Monthan AFB, Pinal Airpark, Tuscon, etc, etc.
ME: Owls Head Transportation Museum

I'll have to think and try to come up with more for you.
 
Oh yeah and AR has Gastons, MI has 6Y9, and PA has Wings....

Well, it is adjacent to the Arizona Memorial, true, but Hawaii features the Pacific Aviation Museum. I was just there in March.
 
Does the "sight" you're seeing have to be aviation related? How about a sight you can only get from the air:

- Crater Lake, OR
- Active volcanic flows on Hawaii (check out at Sports, Hilo airport and go)
- Lake Tahoe is pretty awesome from the air and ground.
- The Meteor crater near Winslow AZ.
- The Grand Canyon
- The Bad Lands in South Dakota/Mount Rushmore (who'd ever want to actually drive there?)
- Key West for a "last flight out" coffee mug
- Lebanon MO for the great free lunch spread
- Alaska for a float plane rating
... this list could be very long for every state.

I've been PIC visiting every state except Maine and Idaho - including Alaska & Hawaii.
 
Seems to be something about everywhere.
For me it is the trip itself that makes it fun to take a LONG xc. Stopping at the "podunk" airports and talking with the people there.
Had some of the best salsa ever from a little place in the middle of no where I stopped at just because I felt like getting out for awhile.
Have seen some REALLY cool planes at "unscheduled" stops.
As you look out the window and say "there's an airport". Just stop for no particular reason, the people you will meet is just amazing!

Not a formal museum, but Ron Fagen's operation in Granite Falls, MN is a cool place to visit. Warhawks, Inc. is at the local airport.

Maule is in Moultrie GA instead of Florida I think. But Florida has the Naval Air Museum at Pensacola.
Alabama has the Huntsville Space Camp
Texas has Spike and Dave Taylor--er, I mean the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksberg and Glider flying stuff at Marfa! and there is Huston Center NASA
Michigan also has the Yankee Air Force at Ypsilanti
Oklahoma has the CAMI center for the FAA with some cool stuff including the altitude chamber
Wyoming had a mess of old fire fighting planes at Greybull

I agree with Markb5900 and PittsDriver. The US looks really neat from the air. There are millions of things to see that can't be seen like they can from the air. And there are just too many to count neat out of the way airports out there.

250k life insurance policies from a vending machine and dynamite available at hardware stores that was a different time.
