Sometimes I feel the need to be just a tad more expressive, especially after work.

Funny I hang around one saltwater fishing/boating forum that does allow it. Kinda nice sometimes.

Motorcycle forum of your choice. Probably get some porn while you're at it.

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce

Interesting that some words that would still receive a PG-13 movie rating are banned here, even when blocked out. However you can use initials for common phrases with the same words. I don't make the rules, but I agree it seems a little strange. This is like the pretty pony forum except with a lot of opinionated, hard headed, sometimes utterly vicious, but "clean talking" individuals.:dunno:

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce

Over on that board of a different color I think we only block one word group. Something that sounds like truck. Most of the other stuff we let slide as long as folks aren't being nasty or mean with it.

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce

I'm on a paratrooper forum that has little or no rules. The decorum displayed on that site is downright surprising. People do cuss, and sometimes make what most would consider objectionable posts, but it is not near as rampant as I expected it to be.

I think it is because nobody gives them the startled feedback that they were fishing for, so why bother?

If you want to cuss, fine, go ahead and cuss, nobody seems to care. They use words that are used in everyday bull sessions, that I believe even a few pilots engage in using from time to time. There is nothing artificial about the banter.

I moderate on a sportbike forum. We don't allow F in a thread title but in the post we can cuss like the mother*****r.

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce

The old usenet groups are totally unmoderated. (rec.aviation.piloting, etc.) I doubt that there is much legitimate traffic there anymore though. You can get there through groups.google.com

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce

Well ****, you can post all the ****ing cuss words you damn well feel like here, so post the **** away. :D

If that's what floats your ****ing boat go for it.

The old board at justhelicopters.com is somewhat loose and fairly unmoderated.

So after some thought I've asked to have my account on POA removed over this very issue. I used the F word with asterisk in a statement and that offended someone enough to make it an issue. I don't know who it is and that's OK, I tried to post an apology on that tread.

Anyway, seems silly to get that worked up over a little word given how crazy and purposely offensive some people's posts are here.

The universal truth on all forums is less than 100 people provide 99 percent of the content and discussion. If it was all so straight laced and everyone agreed on everything, then no one would bother to read it. That means some disputes and cuss words may be uttered from time to time. My attitude is if that bothers you, ignore the user, but the rules say you can report someone annonomously, so that gives all the silent masses a way to have someone that posts somewhat frequently disiplined/removed in order to protect their eyes from the horrors of a astericked out cuss word.

Anyway, I don't know when my account will be removed, but there's my .02 on cuss words.

So, your telling us, that as a group, we suck simply because you can't use a cuss word while trying to express yourself. Or perhaps your leaving the group because you are unable to express yourself without cussing?

Well fine....see ya.

The issue came up As a result of supporting YOU in your education thread!

If you want to be hyper-sensitive and complain that someone said something mean to you in one thread. Then turn around and post something like the above that was in no way directed toward you then, yes, you are exactly the kind of person I am tired of on this board.

On some of the other forums this could be replaced with "go **** yourselves!"

much shorter, more concise and appropriate IMO

I appreciate you supporting me, believe that, so I will take the time to explain myself better. What I do not understand is why you feel you must announce that you are leaving this group simply because our criteria for conduct does not agree with your own.

Surly with you having more than 650 posts, you have had time to get the feel of how this forum is being operated.

If you no longer wish to participate, all you have to do is stop participating.

If you think being able to cuss is something we all want, why not post a poll, see how we all feel about that issue. Your chances of making changes that way would have more effect than saying you don't want to play with us anymore because you don't like our rules, doncha think?

I have and do cuss like a drunken sailor on other forums. One of the appeals to this forum for me is that I am leaning to communicate without the colorful adjectives seeming all that necessary to get my point across. Not that I haven't used them here, although cleverly disguised with asterisks or numbers though.

Are you going to give up flying as well simply because you are not allowed to use foul words on the radio?

Like I said before on another thread, we all lose if a post is not made, however, if we have to throw away our rules of conduct in order to get them, I question if those posts are worth it.

You know, it's just like any place else. Someone invites you in to their house, you follow the rules of the house. When I'm over at the Cleaver's for dinner, I am very polite and respectful. When I'm playing poker in Snoop Dogg's basement, I pretty much keep up with the rest of the conversation in the language that is in effect at the time. Same with message boards.

Re: Is there a Pilots message board out there where expletives and profanity are acce

Does an honest-to-god swear word really express more than "@#$^" or "****." The former was quite effective in the old Peanuts comics, and was family-safe enough for the sunday paper.

You're absolutely right. Ironically I did the exact same thing you did in this very thread, but that wasn't my point. I've probably said to much so I'll leave it be as has been suggested.

not a pilot board, but 4chan allows all sorts of talk, comtroversy, and depravity

The former would be in violation of the rules.

What the **** is this world coming to.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Unreasonable rules have a tendency to lose legitimacy and get widely ignored. Remember the 55 MPH national speed limit?

Why should this board be more restrictive than regulated print media? Because potty mouth filters are so effective? I recall another board that used to replace references to a difficult problem described with a word that rhymes with "stitch" with "pregnant dog." Such silliness is typical. No technical problem I've ever been involved with bears the slightest resemblance to a puppy-to-be.

Synonyms can be fun... Fornicating in a circular motion can land your keester knee-deep in cow-pie...for example:D

More seriously, cussing has its place in conversation and even in text on a forum such as this, but that could be a can of worms that can have a very profound effect on the people or (perceived) attitude or feel of the entire forum. Some valuable discussions may fall silent from people walking away from what may seem to them a more hostile or disrespectful environment than what they are willing to put up with.

With that in mind, I personally don't mind it much...

I'm on a picture framers forum that makes this forum look like bikers heaven. You have to be real careful saying things like "gosh". Don't even think about saying darn.

For the fun of it, I went back to see if anyone is still alive there. Looks better than it did a few years ago. mxmaniac is still there, but most of the real ******* trolls seem to have moved on.

Actually, I'm glad I stopped by my soapbox site. Not much activity, but I did find this gem, which will be pushed off the edge of the earth and disappear forever with the next post in that topic:

Soapbox said:
On 2012-05-24 08:57:20 U.S. Mountain Time, Not A Patient Any More stepped onto the Soapbox and proclaimed:
When none of it makes sense, it's time to get therapy.

When it starts to make sense, you're making progress.

When it all makes perfect sense, you're getting close.

When none of it makes sense, you're cured.

Not too shabby.

I've always thought if someone found it necessary to use expletives, obscenities, pejoratives, or invectives to discuss another's heritage, parentage or destination, they had a very poor command of their native language.

Just sayin'
