Is having bother EAA and AOPA memberships redundant?

I so I'm signing up to be a AOPA member but I'm already a EAA member. Can a slave have two masters?

Similar but different agendas. Often their political items are same, but AOPA doesn't put much emphasis on innovation. EAA was a significant force behind the G5, Dynon, and TruTrak approvals.

I am okay with supporting both.

Sure you can. AOPA will be glad to take your money so they can fight for the rights of the jet owners and manufacturers across the country.

I let my AOPA lapse. My EAA hasn't. Plus, Oshkosh.

I have both. I like the magazines and while the EAA is more aligned with my interests, AOPA does some things like Airport advocacy, working to eliminate taxes on repair work and other items so that I don't mind paying dues to both.

Not anywhere near an AMU, so I can afford both.

Cheers

Nearly everything AOPA tries to do, EAA does better.

In the business world, EAA would have already bought them and divested themselves of everything but ASF.

EAA pays for itself with discounts to the Show, to which I go every year and intend to continue. AOPA pays for itself with discounts to my exorbitant aircraft insurance (though after what they had to pay for my screw up I can't blame them). Were it not for the discount I would probably once again abandon AOPA, but I'd keep EAA. AOPA talks about pilot shortages, EAA did something.

I thought of another totally different reason. I can wear my EAA hat when I want to look like a real airplane guy and my AOPA Hat (one of the dozen or so they have sent me over the years) to impress women who think I must be rich and cool to be an airplane owner and pilot. Actually, it works more often than not:cool:.

Cheers

I'll have to remember this one

Both organizations have strengths. Neither is the end-all for all aviators. I belong to both. AOPA did me a solid when I needed advice and counsel for my SI. EAA has done me a solid with their E-AB insurance program. They did right by me, I'll do right by them.

Is it good for renewal as well as new membership? The link looked like just new when I scanned it.

Cheers

My membership had lapsed, so I was effectively a "new" member. :)

This is a re-thread.

I belong to both and enjoy the magazines. One for gee whiz dreaming and one for actual stuff I can and do use. (Any guesses which?)

Also, if you ever want to get involved with Young Eagles you'll need to be an EAA member. I HIGHLY recommend getting involved with Young Eagles, Pilots and Paws, and Angel Flight.

EAA is only oshkosh...Haven't seen them actually accomplish anything...actually I take that back, they are doing some cool things with experimental avionics certification. AOPA doesn't know what to do...1 year mentor pilots, 1 year flight training books, 1 year wine club, 1 year yellow 152 @ $100k a pop. Wait 2 years, it'll be totally different and $30 more expensive.
