After reading all the horror stories on POA and in the print mags about soaring insurance prices, I was expecting to get gouged when I renew the coverage on my Beech B-23. I just received quotes from two companies and I was pleasantly surprised.

With the same hull value and all coverages as prior, the quote actually went down by $2 from last year. (I plan to raise the hull coverage by $10k, though, so my cost will go up $120.) With high inflation and me being a year older, I was expecting a painful increase. Nice to find out otherwise.

That IS good news. I can't even think of the last time I heard about an Aero Center mouse being involved in some accident or incident.

They have a bit of a rep for landing incidences. You do have to be on speed and pay attention to CG.

Always negotiate with them. I just renewed my policy. They wanted $300 more than last year. I told them not gonna happen. I have 100+ hours more than last year. I told them I’ll go elsewhere or drop the hull coverage. Their response was “let me check with the underwriter”. Two days later I get the renewal by email. Same coverage, same price. Suddenly they didn’t want an extra $300.

My renewal policy dropped $1000 on my one year old Tecnam P2010. I contribute it to flying more hours and many hours of Wings credit...

How many hours in-model did you have for last year's quote vs this year's quote?

Mine went up another $100. Not sure why since I have another year of experience, another 100ish hours in the plane, another year with no claims etc. Still $800 cheaper than Avemco.

You didn't tell us what you're going to do with the 2$ windfall.

You got married?

Mine dropped $300 when the kid got her instrument/commercial prior to renewal a month ago…so I was sort of happy with that…but talking to my broker is stupid expensive for retracts that I am thinking of buying…sold the Warrior today we were flying for her ratings. Three years ago I had three airplanes and closing tomorrow none…not sure where I go from here.

I believe my renewal offer for the same insurance company increased so my broker called around and got me more coverage, no deductible, and $800 cheaper.

PA28R180
Year 1 $2700 80k hull 500/100 deductible 300/100/15/IR open pilot cover (PPL+IR)
Year 2 $1900 99k hull 0 deductible 300/25/10/IR open pilot cover (CPL+IR)

Does wings credit give you a discount on insurance? I have took the classes online, no idea how to claim them for an insurance reduction?

I’m not really sure, but my renewal form had a block to list training completed in the last 12 months so I listed my wings courses in addition to a couple of others.
