Inadvertant IMC in the Mountains = BAD Idea!

Haha, but if you look at the pilot he is easily into his 50s or more. Just goes to show you that age isn't necessarily a factor.

When do you think modern parenting started? His parents may have been pioneers. ;)

Found this on the purple board, and thought I'd share this...

Definition of Inadvertent:
1. Not duly attentive.
2. Marked by unintentional lack of care.

Neither of those fit this situation. It was wholly intentional to continue in IMC.

If those are mountains, they're pretty forgiving mountains. Here's a
shot of the mountains we have out here:

These don't bend so easily. Note the highway (and old railroad line) running into this pass. This is the Trans-Canada Highway, and it's also a VFR route between Alberta and BC. Very, very unforgiving. These mountains have swallowed numerous airplanes, some never to be seen again.

Re: Close Call Video...A Little Too Close

Just as an EXPLICIT FYI, this topic has already been discussed in the "Lessons Learned" forum.

Discussed and deleted, it would seem....I didn't see it there.

Is there a correlation between smart and wealthy?

You can be:
- smart and not wealthy
- smart and wealthy
- stupid and not wealthy

But if you're stupid and wealthy, the condition is temporary and will end prematurely; one way or another.

However, a more worthy discussion would be what sort of hazardous traits did this guy succumb to without his self-preservation circuit breaker popping open and why? This one seems an awful lot like the doctor from Tulsa that killed his family hitting a wire. I don't get it.

How about a video camera rolling, his buddy in the Jet having "no problem," and his pax all yucking it up asking him why he's such a woosie.

As I get old I learn that the "grown-ups" lied to me as kid. All I read above is peer pressure, peer pressure, and peer pressure. Surly adults rich enough for flying out grow that, right?

And the next words are " Hey, watch this..." (usually a bad thing happens after this...

Hey, that could just as easily be Monarch Pass. It's FULL of aluminum, I've done Monarch on Foot!

Actually, my ancestors took them to Canada during the rebellion. :D

Half of mine are still annoyed by the occupation that started in 1759. :princess:

My wife and I stayed with a cousin (x times removed) in Calgary for the 1988 Olympics and they were wondering when I was going to return to my Canadian roots. I didn't suggest that perhaps they should consider returning to their US roots as we were here first (arrived in 1630). :D It's nice have such good neighbors to the north.

Yes it is... My mother's family is from Quebec, with first settlement in 1635.

My father's family was Manhattan Dutch and Irish. Not too many Dutch immigrated after Stuyvesant.

My way-back grandfather served at Valley Forge. He served in Daniel Morgan's Rifles -- the same unit that marched on Quebec with Benedict Arnold. They lost and many Americans were captured, to be paroled later.

Wouldn't it be something to find out my father's family met my mother's family 200 years earlier?

Roger's Pass, BC. Shows up if you search it on Google Earth. Beautiful spot, for sightseeing. Not so beautiful for driving through it in winter, nor for flying through when the weather's a bit cruddy. The narrowest part of the pass is too small to turn around in when you're forced to fly below a ceiling.
