In-ear headsets under a winter hat

As I was preflighting yesterday in -5°C weather, I had a question come to mind - can in-ear headsets be worn under winter hats? It seems there's two kinds, the Clarity Aloft and others that have a wire to an earbud, and CQ and others that have a sound tube. From pictures, the latter appear to have a bit of protrusion out from the ear, with a right-angle bend to the tube.
My instructor manages to pull a stocking cap over his DC One-X headset but I can't get one over my basic DC headset.
Has anyone tried a hat over in-ears?

We run clarity alofts. It's not difficult with them. I routinely wear a hat in the plane even in the summer.

Like this? I'm flying with an Axis. Sound tubes similar to a CQ or Halo. No problem at all. In some ways, it's actually better with the hat.

I’m a Clarity Aloft guy. I normally wear a wool watch cap, usually above my ears, but it’s never been a problem folding it down over my ears.

When I took my one and only flight in Alaska, I wore a trapper hat. My Bose fit just fine inside it, and it kept me plenty warm as a Floridian. It worked surprisingly well.

I owned a pair. The sound quality and noise reduction - both from the eartips and ANR - is very impressive. But those ear speakers just didn't fit me properly so much of the benefit was lost. Ended up selling them and buying the Axis.
It fits fine in my good ear.....and my surgical ear is ok, but I can't hear well from that so it doesn't need to. Did you try different cushions? That helped for me.
;)

Be a Canuck. Hat? What it is -40C? Pffff, I just fly without one.

I tried a number of things, even Comply eartips. It was just the shape of the speaker piece vs the shape of my ear. Poor fit, no PNR, and leakage for ANR. That's not an issue with Clarity or the or the sound tube offerings, most of which are as quiet or quieter without ANR than many ANR headsets. Here are the differences:

I wear foam ear buds and a homebuilt boom mike under a leather flying helmet.

The bulge in the helmet is just how the leather is cut; the ear buds don't stick out.

When I was flying in Alaska, I would just let my hair grow longer for winters...

Actually I had a large fake sheep wool pad on the top of my headset. It did well for me at all cold temps. When out of the plane I had a beaver hat.

For the three weeks of summer I had a smaller pad for my headset.

Put your headset on when you get out of your (warm) car. It'll keep your ears warm while you preflight, and as a bonus, your head will keep your headset warm so you're not putting on a cold headset. And you don't have to buy anything!
