Hey, my first post!!

Well I almost own the airplane. The check goes in the mail tomorrow. And it's really just 1/3 of a Cherokee 140. But after years of club membership and rarely having a plane available when I wanted it (or just on the spur of the moment because it was a beautiful day and I wanted to fly), I am a VERY happy camper right now!! Next stop, an instrument rating!

I also wanted to let everyone know how much I've enjoyed "lurking" around these forums. Everyone seems very supportive and civil, except of course for the Spin Zone. But that's where the volatile topics belong! I can't believe how many stupid, idiotic, imbeciles post there (i.e. people with different opinions than me)! Even when other posters offer up such lucid, reasonable, and logical arguments (i.e. people with the same opinion as me)!:smile:
 
Many are the joys of being an owner, and that certainly extends to owning a share. A Cherokee is a fine choice, too.

I shop for planes almost nightly; unfortunately, I have a daughter in college so, well, I'll be "shopping" for a while yet.

Good luck with the Cherokee, and I hope you share some ownership stories.

P.S. Yes, I really am the one and only co-founder of Apple Computer. One-third ownership of a Cherokee 140 is really just a clever way to disguise my true identity, and be able to travel a little more incognito. Just don't tell that annoying Wozniak fella!! What's up with all that dancing anyway??:smile:
 
Congrats on the plane! Maybe when I finally move up to a better job I can afford one of those things and I'll stop posting in SZ! Heck, I'll even accept donations to help me get to that point. :D

Not just checks, but keep a big roll of $100's stashed away for those things that just break, usually at the most in-opportune time!

Congratulations - while not sexy or stylish it is a capable and cost-effective airplane. I'm sure you will enjoy!

Congratulations Steve. My favorite flying was being a part owner of a Cherokee 180. Great series of airplanes!

BTW, I find it funny that your name is Steve and you avatar is the same that another Steve had once before I think. I really thought it was Steve screwing around :D

I hadn't even considered that idea!:blush: I've been a Camp Scholler guy for the last 6 years or so. Once a friend and I flew there in his Skymaster just for a day trip, which was the only time I've have actually experienced the "thrill" of keeping your head on a swivel! I'm a 280ish hour pilot, but to be honest Oshkosh intimidates me just a tad.:yikes: But owning my own (1/3) airplane does open up many possibilities!:yes:

I "borrowed" this avatar from a (non-pilot) co-worker, so I thought I was being original and funny on this forum. Guess not!:smilewinkgrin:

I think it's like your girlfriend/wife vs. a Playmate bunny. When all you can do is look, the Playmate looks mighty fine! But when you get to actually touch-feel-fondle-"etc." (sorry honey!), your girlfriend is the sexiest thing on this planet! So I'll still be lusting (in my heart) after those 1/2 million dollar Cirri, but my little Cherokee will still be my baby!!

All these jokes about spending more money! I just don't get it. :confused:

However, I did have a few ideas about upgrading the panel with a 430W. Those don't cost much do they?:)
 
and do you want the install certified for IFR use?

Some warning signs:

1) "while you are at it, you ought to...." (I learned to hate those words while I was
doing an engine overhaul)

2) Actually believing that speed mods apply to your airplane

3) and believing that speed mods are additive

4) wanting to do flights beyond your bladder range (leads to thoughts of more speed)

Owning is a love hate relationship. I love all the new toys out there (GARMIN 430/530), upgrades, and MODS; hate that I don't have all the money I need for them.
Since I've owned the Piper, I added wingtip lights, transponder with TIS, replaced the BK 89B, and redid the interior. Did I mention the engine overhaul at + TBO? All I need now is a nice paint job and that 530.
Next year.

Well not the best analogy because I assure you your cherokee won't care if you fly another airplane!:rolleyes:

As long as you are going to paint, you should have some speed mods done first...
 
Pictures as promised! I now have a very expensive key in my pocket!

Unfortunately, the plane is now based in Dwight (KDTG - home of the sidewalk runway!), about 60 miles from home. We are hoping to move it to Pontiac (KPNT) once they build some more hangers this summer. Ideally, it will eventually end up at my home airport of Bloomington/Normal (KBMI), but hanger availability is very limited there as well.

Interesting theory but I haven't been brave enough to test that out yet, does it apply to Cessna 150 as well or is this the reason that Pipers are more popular? :D

BTW, I saw a NOTAM about a month ago that Dwight was closed to transient traffic. Is that still true? Are they planning to close the airport?
 
I wasn't aware of the notam for transient planes. The airport is pubic access, but privately owned by Mr. David Constantine. He was mowing the runway today (21 ft asphalt strip centered on 100 ft turf). He is getting up there in years, but I don't know of any plans to close the airport.

Is this notam still in effect? I couldn't find it.

I don't see it either, so unless it got published, the restriction appeared to be transitory. The only NOTAM I see now is aerodrome lights OTS.

I've landed at Dwight before. It's a difficult field to find! At least the paved portion of the runway is wider than our taxiways at Clow, which are only 20' wide! (We've had a couple of planes go off this spring into the deep mud, so they actually posted a NOTAM on that!)
