CDC says epilepsy is active in 1.2% of the US population. I guess we can look up other diseases and get an idea. When I wrote this I was thinking about the 100% disqualifying conditions like epilepsy, so let’s assume disqualified even for SI
Aren't the DMV lines long enough for you yet?Suppose that the DOT made it mandatory for every person to have a Class III equivalent to get issued a drivers license,
If every one in the US went for a 3rd class medical, how many would be denied? How exclusive is this club of pilots?
Har!!!How exclusive is this club of pilots?
50% might be on the high side, some folks will overlap a number of those ailments.15% would be denied as illegal drug users and having multiple DUIs.
5% blind
15% for depression and other mental disorders.
5% diabetes.
5% cancer
5% heart disease
2% stroke
More than 50%.
1 in 20 people in the US are blind? Seems a bit much.15% would be denied as illegal drug users and having multiple DUIs.

If I'm looking at this correctly, you aren't allowing for any overlap. I would suspect a significant number of individuals who would be disqualified for drug use and/or DUI would also end up being diagnosed with depression or other mental disorders. I bet a far number of those with heart disease are also diabetic etc. Factor in individuals that overlap more than one category and that 50% number is going to go down.15% would be denied as illegal drug users and having multiple DUIs.

One in 20 can't be corrected to 20/40? That still seems a bit high.Blind enough they can’t pass an FAA class 3.
Last time I went to the OH DMV, I was in and out in 30 minutes. Only took that long because my son had to take the test to get his learners permit. We were the only people in there...Aren't the DMV lines long enough for you yet?

Funny, I was waiting for quite a while in an OH BMV line in February to get my new DL. 1.5 hours before my number was called.Last time I went to the OH DMV, I was in and out in 30 minutes. Only took that long because my son had to take the test to get his learners permit. We were the only people in there...
Prior to that adventure, I was able to get my DL renewed in under 20 minutes. I was #3 in line. I will say that OH has there s&*$ together, unlike VA where the lines have been know to be 2-3 hours deep...
Besides, the DMV wouldn't be the ones doing the medical anyway, it would be another inefficient, bureaucratic type agency that would need to be stood up....

The increasing number of ppl on antidepressants and anxiolytics is astounding. I was doing a racing physical for a guy Today in fact and started talking to him about that as I’m going for my medical tomorrow.
Wow, that high? Do you have a reference or link handy for that? Sort of amazing.According to statistical data, not less than 25%
