With all of the ridiculous nit-picking arguments and Loss of Thread Control going on lately, I was just thinking.....it's been waaaay too long since we visited the hot dog vs ketchup debate.

Perhaps if we concentrate our internet angst here, we might be able to have more productive discussions elsewhere.

I myself am a mustard guy.....what say you?

Ketchup, cheese, and onions. I don't care what you think about me. Mustard is vile crap.

Yellow mustard, ketchup, relish, and onions.

I don't like the taste of mustard as a condiment. I will use it in sauces, but not just splotched on a burger or a dog.

Hot dogs are only to be eaten after they've been cooked on a grill, or over a campfire. Done right, there's no need to put anything on them. But if I do, it's ketchup.

Now, is it ketchup or catsup?

Doesn't matter at all so long as the dog has some of the yummy sauerkraut made in the kitchens of Steinholme.

Almost anything but catsup.
Mustard of almost any variety, onions, chili, sauerkraut, cheese is all good.

Catsup goes on the French Fries, or "maybe" the hamburger, but not the hot dog.

Put me in the sauerkraut camp as well.
Also chili but never both.
And mustard > Ketchup

It's CATSUP you illiterate idiot!!!

(he said to concentrate our internet angst here, didn't he)?:D

But you are right about dogs hot off the grill being best (especially if it is a good quality dog).

Ketchup is for getting kids to eat food they don't like.

I don't know what Catsup is. Maybe for gettig cats to eat food they don't like.

It's smashed tomatoes complete with worms, sugar, and salt no matter what ya wanna call it. Vile stuff only to be consumed with junk food.

Now a proper hot mustard seed (not the fake yellow stuff all mashed and emulsified), now that is a useful spice and even acceptable when emulsified if used in judicious quantities and in limited circumstances.

Ketchup is for kids, and only misinformed kids.

Hot dogs aren't suitable for human consumption no matter what you put on them. Yuck.

I'll settle for Italian Sausage. With onions and peppers, of course, as we need to get our veggies.... ;)

What, you don't like consuming mashed chicken lips and pigs rectum?

I am having a Hot Dog for lunch.

There are these guys that setup shop outside Home Depot of all places, selling Hot dogs.
I have never had one but the smell is amazing.

I must have one today.

I generally don't like ketchup. It seems to have it's place on a Whopper or a McBurger, but those aside I like mayo and mustard on my burgers and sandwiches and not ketchup. If we're eating and you want to put ketchup on your hotdog, knock yourself out. I don't care.

Likewise I'm fine with Sloppy Joe's made with tomato paste (or sauce), but not ketchup. Although, being that I lettuce wrap my burgers and sandwiches, Sloppy Joe's is not my first choice of meat.

Which reminds me. Carl's came out with the above. A burger topped with a hotdog, on a layer of chips. WTF. That sounds like something I'd piece together in a state of drunkenness and regret it the next day. So I walked in to Carl's yesterday.

"I would like....."

"How ees your day? Would you like try new All American burger?"

"Um.... no." (Make grimace with tongue sticking out.)

Jalapeno and Cheeder Italian Sausage with mustard and a cheese.

That red stuff is for french fries. I have family members that put Ketchup, Catsup, red stuff on their Mac and Cheese. That is just nasty,

I don't eat french fries, but back when I did, I didn't like ketchup on them either. Ranch, mayo, or even bbq sauce, but ketchup? No. Same with onion rings. Especially onion rings.

I am double minded about Hotdogs. Either Ketchup (Heinz is the only real kind) and onions or chili and onions, but never all three.

I'm not a big ketchup fan to begin with, so it's no problem for me to remain 'hot dog PC'. The dogs I loved best were the Tijuana bacon wrapped street cart dogs, and those were typically served with relish, onions, and mayo. Chili-cheese dog comes in second. When I stop by Grey Papaya or similar, typically light on the course mustard and onions, or just plain. Their dogs are good enough that they stand well on their own.

Cincinnati style Coneys are good, either Skyline or Gold Star or even better Price Hill Chili.

No ketchup on those only Franks Hot Sauce, or Louisiana Style Hot Sauce.

Same here. Often I modify ketchup to a remulade or hot sauce if the choices are limited. Ketchup itself is just too meh.

It depends on what fixings are available. A dirty water dog (thought I haven't tested my gastro-immune system by actually having one in quite some time) with sauerkraut and pushcart onions (which have ketchup in them) is a first choice. If its a simple barbecue, just kraut and mustard. I also like a cooked dog placed hot into a toasted bun over a slice of American cheese, topped with mustard AND ketchup. If just plain, mustard and ketchup. If it's good chili, a chili cheese dog, topped with diced raw onion and shredded cheese is good. Damn, now I'm getting hungry for lunch.

My in-laws from Germany dig curry ketchup, which is apparently big over there.
