Hopelessly clueless aircraft seller

I like how he took pictures of it with dust all over it.....

Naw...I'm not going to buy a nice old one, I'm going to redo a an old one MY way! When the dust settles he might get 22,500.00.

It's a nice aerobat. I'll sign him a check for 22,500 today and won't be picky with the prebuy.

Clueless sellers are a very common trait of aviation.

I'm a little confused by his choice in avionics - I don't think I've ever seen dual panel-mounted VFR-only GPS receivers (the GNC-250XL is VFR only). Also, the 250XL is a Comm radio also, so he has 2 Comms, then another one below the 250XL's, for now 3 Comms. And I can't quite make out what's below that, I'm not familiar with it, could it be another Comm radio? On the bottom is a DME.

It does have a lot of engine monitors and that kind of thing, seems very thoroughly equipped, especially for a 152.

We had TWO 150s, owned by the same owner, sell last fall at our field. One was an aerobat with less than 2,000 hrs. The other a "regular" 150 with 3,500 hours, or so. The aerobat was in decent shape, the other one not so much. It had been a great birdhouse for at least five years (in a sunshade hangar, never moved). They went for about $35,000.

FOR BOTH.

And even at that I thought the buyer was stupid.

Maybe I'm blind, but where's the transponder?

John

Looks like it's at the very bottom of the stack.

It's listed as an IFR bird but I believe the GNC250XL are VFR GPS units. Also, why in the world would anyone need TWO?

It has a VOR Comm...or two...that's the only thing I see that's IFR.

It looks to me like this thing has FOUR comms!

If he had any interest in selling the bird, he would have bothered to wash it and take pictures outside. 'See, nobody is interested' is all he needs to get out of this craigslist ad.

I personally like the sub woofer mounted to the roof (wood screws wire nuts and a wooden box to boot).
For those occasions where you want to rock P Diddy during a barrel roll session.

Probably told to sell it. So he puts a stupid price on knowing full well it will never sell. But to his wife he is trying. Ive seen that with houses.

But hey, it's a fair price.

How can you tell they're 250XLs and not 150XL/155XL/300XL?

GPS isn't required for IFR operations.
did you read the rest of my post?

Agree with Russ, the faceplate is legible in the close-up shot. I also agree with Russ in that I have no idea why someone would install two of 'em. Especially since it appears there are two other comms in the plane already.

The ad was mis-typed, he wanted $7,000.00 for it and I just bought it!!

OK, I'm just kidding, but I think it's worth a lot closer to $7K than $70K!:D
Actually probably a good $20K airplane for somebody ;)

A 150 or a 152 is just that regardless of lipstick applied. I'd rather drive my car. Now a decathlon 180 is a far different story. For 70 grand your close to a nice one.

Looks like it's at the very bottom of the stack.
[snip]

All I see at the bottom is a DME. No buttons and a knob. I've never seen a transponder with a knob and no buttons.

I'm not planning to buy it anyway.:D

Bendix Kt79 transponder?

Also looks like it flew from Henderson NC to Smyrna Beach FL in 2009 (filed Golf) and not on radar since.

also the FAA registry indicates "Third Notice for Re-Registration/Renewal" since 2010. So I dont think the plane has been flying (at least legally)

Smart owner, hope if the marriage goes bad the lawyers didn't see the add.

I kind of have this rule - if I'm shopping for something and it's overpriced, I just move on to the next thing.
