I've resisted posting this, but my curiosity has won out.

How do you feel the site has been affected by Henning's departure?

I'm kind of on the fence.

How say you?

Is the forum a better or worse place without Henning's presence and contributions?

I welcome your comments on why you voted the way you did - I will withhold my vote in the interest of fairness.

Henning is a professional aviator and seaman. When he speaks on these subjects I listen. Then there is the rest....

I always liked Hennings posts. Did I agree with everything he said? No. Did I understand every post? Nope. :) But I enjoyed his input and I have learned from him. (Among many others here)

From the Rules of Conduct...

"Bans and warnings are not to be discussed on the forums. Any inquiries or comments or bans are to be sent in private messages or via email. A moderator may choose to publicly inform the participants of a forum about bans and warnings if this is in the interest of the forum."

Overall, I though Henning to be entertaining, I hope he comes back.

Removal of any participant diminishes the community.

Not true.

At the very least, the removal of spammers and trolls enhances the community (edit: I'm not accusing Henning or anyone else of being a troll).

If a poster misbehaves, a temporary timeout won't harm the community.

Let's hope he comes back. In spite of his chronic scientosis, I did enjoy his posts. Kind of a cross between A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the New Testament. Weird but entertaining in a way.

If I've violated that by starting this discussion, I apologize.

I will edit out any references to the ban, but the thread itself is not about the ban, but about Henning's absence overall.

Is there also a ban on discussing the ban on discussing bans ?

Henning may just have a work trip.

Henning is my favorite poster. If he had a fan club, I'd be the president.

Who's Henning?

Is this like gladiator where the crowd cheers and the emperor has to give a thumbs up or thumbs down?

I didn't always agree with his posts, and I didn't always disagree, either.

What they did do was stimulate conversation and fresh perspectives on a wide range of topics.

Isn't that what a good forum is about?

A lot of his posts ended up in "You're stupid! No, you're stupid!", but I don't think he was usually the one to fire that first volley.

He WAS/IS extremely hard on poor decision making in the cockpit if it didn't seem like a lesson was learned or if someone didn't realize the gravity of the situation. Sometimes he went nuclear when it wasn't necessary.

I hope he's back soon.

Who is Henning ? :dunno:

Cheers

Someone's gonna have to fill me in on what happened..? I went on a trip a week or so ago and didn't get onto POA, looks like I missed something..:dunno:

Anyway I liked Henning

Is there also a ban on discussing the ban on discussing bans ?
Is this Russia? Egypt? Kazakhstan? Sheesh!

If I were in charge of banning, there is a long list of thread hijackers, ignorant blowhards, and people who contribute no value that I would ban before I banned Henning. I don't always agree with him but I can't remember a post that I though was obnoxious or a waste of my reading time.

I remember reading Henning's posts over on the Red Board. Seems like a lot of the more experienced aviators that stick their neck out over on POA get dinged pretty good. Happens on the Red Board too, but it seems the gray hairs have more control over the trolls.

Anyway, all these boards seem to have a lot of people that get pretty worked up over this or that. My feeling: time to close the browser and go fly something ....

Staying within the ROC I would like to state.

I don't think Henning joining the band is good for the community however, I recall reading the posts that let to him becoming a band member and it was warranted IMO.

He is smart, and adds a lot but often talks out of school on stuff and sometimes engages in behavior that goes too far.

My understanding was that his position as a band member was only temporary.

Given that whatever status Henning may have as a musician is irrelevant to this discussion, you probably mean "banned".

I can't find the thread now, maybe it was deleted. Anyhow, Henning must have been having a real bad day, or off his meds or something, but in that thread he laid into somebody with the serious personal attacks. He violated the board's code of conduct.

I miss him. His knowledge of boating is interesting and aviation knowledge is no more or less than most here. His been there, done that stories are a little annoying, but just like a shut in senior citizen going on about glory days, you nod your head and move on. When he starts in on how he helped the Wright brothers with their induction system on their engine when he was just 7, you just glaze over and skip down a bit.

His politics/religion/futurist ideas are whack a doodle, but entertaining and not always wrong. A nice counter balance to the dominant doom and gloom, we're so screwed, if there's a problem, fix it with the biggest hammer you have, type of posters.

Those that don't go to the Spin Zone won't notice much difference.

Henning was in a band? Maybe he was just in a sing off for night flight!!!

No discussions of "bans" is not allowed.
"Bands" not prohibited by the ROC so my assumption was it must be a simple typo by OP

Henning was in a band?

Oh yeah! Played with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Helped them build their guitars and mod their amps. Also helped them evolve and expand their thinking. In short the later half of the 1960s culture is a direct result of Henning's input.:D:lol:

If bullsh!t was brass henning would be a band.

To my humble opinion, Henning's issue is a microcosm of forum issues in general. What authoritative information that he had about aviation was depreciated by his exaggerated or clueless posting on subjects he was only peripherally knowledgeable about.
