Hannes Arch Dies in Helicopter Crash

That's a damn shame. I hope we learn more about the whys and hows of this crash.

That truly sucks...we've lost a true gentleman and fearless aviator. I was fortunate enough to get a ride with him in a 2-place Edge 540 at the Barcelona Red Bull Air Race several years ago. He was all about class and quiet confidence.

I saw this. Very sad to see. He was a great pilot and a great competitor. I enjoyed watching him in the Red Bull Air Race.

Ah, F^&*CK.

Dude was a great pilot.
RIP

I guess we have a different definition of that word, esp. when it comes to flying a VFR non-NVG helicopter in dark mountainous terrain.

I haven't seen anything suggesting that he was flying. There was apparently one survivor but it may be a while before they are able to speak about what happened.

You are a lucky individual. I know you'll never forget that!

Yes I am, and no I won't... that was the ride of a lifetime. Hard to imagine that he's gone.

All those knife-edge passes and 10g turns mere feet off the ground, and he goes out in a chopper against a granite mountainside.

Terrible. Met a bunch of those guys and they are all so nice. A true love of aviation and passing it to the next generation.

After years of flying at night in the mountains under NVG's doing HEMS, I will never fly in those conditions again without NVG's. As some say, ignorance is bliss. RIP
