Very sad news. Great pilot who will be missed!

Ah, F^&*CK.
Dude was a great pilot.
RIP
I guess we have a different definition of that word, esp. when it comes to flying a VFR non-NVG helicopter in dark mountainous terrain.
I haven't seen anything suggesting that he was flying. There was apparently one survivor but it may be a while before they are able to speak about what happened.
You are a lucky individual. I know you'll never forget that! That truly sucks...we've lost a true gentleman and fearless aviator. I was fortunate enough to get a ride with him in a 2-place Edge 540 at the Barcelona Red Bull Air Race several years ago. He was all about class and quiet confidence.

I hadn't seen that yet. Still, that doesn't mean he wasn't a great pilot. We don't yet know the circumstances of the crash. The investigation just begun so we'll have to wait until it's complete to know what happened.
After years of flying at night in the mountains under NVG's doing HEMS, I will never fly in those conditions again without NVG's. As some say, ignorance is bliss.
