Gulf of Mexico Oil Rig Explosion

Apparently your observation holds true for BP, at least for those employees working the Deepwater Horizon.:mad:

Most likely there was only one guy from BP there, "The Company Man". He's the one that over rode the driller's instructions and told them to lighten the mud load before putting in the cement plugs. Still having trouble figuring out the advantage.

Federal court issues a preliminary injunction against the moratorium on deep water drilling. Some interesting reasoning.

Best,

Dave

======================================

This Court is persuaded that the public interest weighs in
favor of granting a preliminary injunction. While a suspension of activities directed after a rational interpretation of the evidence could outweigh the impact on the plaintiffs and the public, here,
the Court has found the plaintiffs would likely succeed in showing that the agency’s decision was arbitrary and capricious. An invalid agency decision to suspend drilling of wells in depths of over 500 feet simply cannot justify the immeasurable effect on the plaintiffs, the local economy, the Gulf region, and the critical present-day aspect of the availability of domestic energy in this country.

Accordingly, the plaintiffs’ motion for preliminary injunction
is GRANTED. An Order consistent with this opinion will be entered.

The options for the administration are: 1) an appeal; or 2) simply redo the moratorium proceedings and make a better-tailored set of findings.

The option chosen will be...well, it'll be interesting to see which one is chosen. Further I won't say outside of SZ. :)

Yeah, I don't see what purpose the moratorium would serve. It's just like 9/11 and the rule changes following that. All were completely unnecessary because had the existing rules and best practices at the time been followed, neither 9/11 or this spill would have occurred. We've been drilling in over 500' for over a decade now with a good record of safety. The BP company man on site screwed the pooch and ignored best practice for a very small gain in future expediency. He should be made to tread water in the slick until he drowns. Anything else is unnecessary. The driller knew better, he was just countermanded by the Company Man.

Think things are bad now? Wait till the hurricane season is over.... Ever seen it rain crude oil? This has the potential of putting BP out of business.
