Great Lakes/Midwest April Lunch

It's going to be just me, pax is out.

Still planning for 1600Z arrival, will bring 2 bags of chips.

I'm still planning on coming. I'm not sure if im flying or driving yet but most likely driving. I think my friend is going to fly in with a passenger in his cardinal. We will probably plan for around 1600z and i don't think doing the museum since i live right by it. Anything you want me to bring?

As I just said to Tim via pm, looks like my trip fell through on sat, so I will stop in at about 1530Z if you will have me! I might be bringing my son and we can bring our own burgers (I'm on a diet :/) if I can borrow some flame. I can bring whatever else I can fit in the 152..

Have to leave by 2000z to get the plane back. No special plans on the museum. Didn't follow the thread closely enough since I thought I was busy..

This will be one of my longest xc's to date!

You can have all the flame you want Chris, looking forward to meeting you.

We have some turkey (or chicken?), spinach and feta burgers in the freezer we can bring, along with some buns. Weather is looking cool (65ish) and partly sunny. Don't know if we'll do the museum yet.

Seeing as it didn't even make it out of the 30s here today, I'd say 65ish sounds positively tropical, or at least Mediterranean. Freezing level somewhere north of 6000 feet, according to the ADDS forecast. Meaning: even if the lower clouds make it a little further north than expected, there shouldn't be any worries about icing.

If I'm able to make it, it probably won't be for long - turns out I've got a family gathering in Union City at 1000, so even if I make a token appearance there I won't be back at KMGY until 1130 local, then my aforementioned lesson at 1200 local. Does anyone have any requests for snacks / drinks?

Not needed AJ. I should have plenty

If anyone wanted to being some potato salad, cole slaw or Mac salad on a small cooler that would be good but if not I can get some as I don't have the fuel or rental coat to get to Dayton

I can bring whatever? Need any drinks? I wont be there till about 1230 as plane was already booked till 12. Also my friend is flying in with a passenger or two and wanted to know what you wanted him to bring

Hey all, it is going to be a great turnout. I picked up tables and chairs from Commander Aero today and put them in the hangar, so that task is complete.

Commander Aero knows you all are coming and will be ready with line people to help park and fuel up if needed. I will put out a more detailed PM to all of you this evening.

I was in Muncie today getting the electric trim repaired/replaced and had a heck of a roller coaster ride home at about noon. Winds at MIE were 240 at 14 gusting to 24, yeee haw

Anyway look for more later tonight.

Looks like you'd have had a great tailwind coming back right about now.

Post annual flight at noon tomorrow. I plan on being in Jackson at 10 to get fuel.

We have 21 to 22 planning to come as of this evening and by my count up to 8 aircraft.

I learned in the 150's and 152's as did most. They are every bit an airplane. As a matter of fact the aircraft I soloed in and took my primary flight review in is sitting at MGY. Unfortunately it is unflyable.

What did you do to it Tim??

Wasn't me, my solo was so long ago that aircraft was almost new. Typical training fuel starvation, someone put it down in a field and it flipped.

Repair was not made correctly, I think you can still see the bend in one of the wings. Interesting story. Won't post the details or the N number out of respect for the owner. I will tell you Saturday if I remember.

I will have Coke, Coke Zero, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and water to drink.

If you want something different let me know or bring your own.

Thanks Tim!! Depending on how things go tomorrow, I should be swinging by for a few minutes at least!

Okay I was just checking NOTAMs for KMGY and noticed "RWY 20 LDA 4414". What the heck does that mean? I mean, I think I know what an LDA is but last I checked there wasn't one at MGY. And 4414 doesn't seem to make sense in that context. So obviously I'm missing something.

Landing Distance Available. 5000' runway. 590' displaced threshold on Rwy 20. Close enough for government work! :)

Shot some T&G this afternoon and everything looked fine to me. No clue what the NOTAM means. Checked the FAA web site and it is clueless as well since I get an error message when I try and display it.

Cheers

Oh wait, it just hit me. It has to be Landing Distance Available, 4414 feet. Still I've never seen that abbreviation used in a NOTAM. I even tried to look it up in the FAA's list of NOTAM cintractions, and all they had was the approach. Must be nonstandard or something.

edit: whoops! Grant beat me to it.

I am so used to the displaced threshold, I never even think about it. ;)

Cheers

What were you flying?

What were you flying?

Warrior. Beautiful day, clear and a million. Little bumpy below 2000 AGL but kept me awake. ;)

Did have a near miss with a Hawk circling looking for prey.

Cheers

The City of Dayton resurfaced the runway in September of 2011. When they checked the actual measurement they discovered the error in available landing distance. It has been Notamed ever since. I guess no one knows how to get it changed in the AFD.

Plenty or room though.

The Bonanza isn't out of annual yet, so we'll be in the Skylane. Wx is looking good, so may come VFR. We will stop by the grocery store on the way to get some buns and cole slaw, and we will have 6 of those chicken burgers too..
