Got letter of appoval today for..

Got my letter today to transport, ship, receive or possess explosive materials at work. I work in and underground silver mine and the letter of approval is required for employment. Guess I get to keep my job for another couple of years....:)

I remember, as a kid, making explosives was a hobby of mine. Now they say it is bad.

Got my credentials in 1967 so I could legally help my grandfather, who was a blaster by trade. We worked on the construction of the NYS Thruway, down in the Elmsford, NY area.
I think I've only used it twice since 1973.
I'm probably more of a hazard than a help these days.
 
We blasted at a construction site and somehow the quarry a few miles away must have known we were doing it (I had an expert, we told the city, no permit needed yada yada) and the quarry "blasted back" a Big One. Only thing I can think of is they were trying cover complaints (it was the quarry). I was so worried, I was just relieved everything went ok. Whew!
 
My dad worked at a quarry for 30+ years. I grew up playing with "dynamite wire". We had it all over the house for everything... orange and yellow insulation, single strand... I'm guessing 18g? 20g?
