Got first doze of Pfizer today

And now it's about 36 hrs in and I am starting to notice a side effect that Pfizer says shows up about 16% of the time, swollen lymph gland. It's right where they said it would be, closest to the injection site, so it's under my armpit on the arm where I got the shot. Documentation says to give it a week or so for the immune system to do its thing before worrying about it.

Muscle soreness is gone now.

First Pfizer was nothing, didn't even notice it. Second one started out that way. 14 hours later, I had a really rapid onset fever....started shaking badly enough in bed to wake my wife up. Fever went away by the morning, but I was pretty much unable to stay awake, achy, and useless for the rest of that day (the day after). 3rd day was right back to normal, although I had a very minor lingering headache, which is interesting because I never get headaches. I think about half the folks my age that I know who have had both doses (of Pfizer) have had similar results.

No side-effects from my Pfizer second dose, other than soreness at the injection site.

26 years old and the second dose of Pfizer almost put me in the ER last night. Spiked a high fever twice, felt like every joint in my body was about to explode and a horrible migraine ensued. It was like a hangover, the flu and a migraine all wrapped up into one. That was a horrible, horrible night. The headache is all that is still persisting.

It's wild since the first shot I barely even had any arm soreness.

take a pic of your lizard tail.....and post it here.

Got J&J yesterday at 4pm. Zero side effects. Not even a sore arm. Did they really inject me or was it placebo?:D
My wife and I just received our JnJ this past Thursday and no symptoms, not even a sore arm, has me asking the same questions...:)

Whoa! Sorry to hear that!

Almost 48 hours since #2 for my mom and #1 for my wife and me.

My mom started feeling bad the next morning, and by 6 pm she thought she was going to die and afraid she would not. She kept feeling cold and would start shivering. My wife fed my mom some tomato soup and half a grilled cheese sandwich, then piled on a few blankets. After about 90 minutes she felt hot so we filled up an ice pack for her forehead. Finally by 10 pm she went to sleep. By the next morning she was feeling a LOT better but exhausted.

Yesterday my wife complained of a headache, general soreness and exhaustion. She is feeling better but still tired today.

I feel like I spent all day yesterday throwing hay bales and stacking them in the barn. Sore back, shoulders and arms. The injection site is extremely sensitive. Feeling much better today. Still a little soreness.

Not looking forward to #2 after watching my mom.

Update:

All is well today. The 3 of us feel just fine. Now all my wife and I need to do is get shot #2. And survive.

My wife had a slightly swollen area below her injection site. I told her that it is caused by the small chip implanted in her arm so the government can keep track of her. Now I cannot convince her that I was teasing her....

Does she carry around one of those "smart phone" tracking devices when she's out? :D

My work group didn't anticipate the reaction from the second dose (Moderna) and we all got our second dose on the same day. It shut us down the following day, everyone had to leave work early we were so sick. It seems to hit people under 50 especially hard.

I did immunizations for the state yesterday. One middle aged gentleman asked whether I can write him a note 'that he totally can't do anything around the house this weekend'.

The company I work for has on-site nurses, so we're doing on-site vaccinations for employees. On Thursday and Friday so if people have reactions, they don't miss several days of work. ;-)

It's interesting how the different vaccines affect people differently...

My 80 YO mother who had every listed risk factor survived COVID-19 without medical treatment. She took the Pfizer vaccine and had very mild reactions to the first dose. 24 hrs after the second dose she thought she was going to die and almost called 911. 48 hrs later she was almost back to normal.

I'm 53 and took the Moderna vaccine a couple of weeks ago and other than a slightly sore shoulder had no reaction. Very interested how the second dose will go in a couple of weeks and hoping for the best... ;-)

:lol::lol:

Totally forgot about that, now I can really get her in a tin foil hat.!!
I guess you could tell her how to turn off her phone, but then she wouldn't be able to receive calls!

Moderna. I had both shots a month and a half ago. First shot, sore arm and nothing else. Second shot, sorer arm and after eight hours experienced mild fever and body aches which lasted about 12 hours. After that, back to normal.

Follow up on a previous post of mine.

Pfizer #2 last week, Thursday morning. By Thursday night my shoulder muscle was pretty sore, by Fri AM my shoulder muscle was about where it was on late afternoon Thursday so I was on the downhill side of the curve. By Saturday my arm was fine.

Here's the followup:

Friday night was when I noticed another side effect: About 16% of 2nd dose Pfizer takers get a swollen lymph node that's closest to the injection site. So that would be in the underarm of whatever arm took the dose. That happened to me. I felt the swelling right where it was expected. It was not painful, but it was noticeable. Saturday it was still there and had gotten more swollen, but Sunday (yesterday) it was going away, and today (Monday) it's even less noticeable. If I poke around I can feel it. Something to look out for.

Yes, not uncommon. Not much of an issue unless you happen to get a mammogram in the weeks after the vaccine. I have this issue now a few times in patients who are being worked up for breast cancer. Noticing nodes either on the same side or opposite to a known cancer can be a bit disconcerting in that setting.

Just got my first jab of AstraZenica today (Canada's a bit behind). Slight soreness 30 minutes after, but so far, less than my annual flu shot.

I’m hoping my 2nd shot isn’t like this. My first one sucked enough.

Let's rephrase "I experienced side effects" to middle-aged guy lingo: "I have such a powerful immune system that it knocked me right on my back when it was training with the vaccine to fight COVID." ;)

Yea, I’m 25, but I’ll go with that. My first shot wasn’t horrible, but I definitely felt like crap the next day. First day was fine. Not sure how much having covid in January had to do with that.

1 in a million shot

what’s the normal rate of blood clots?

related (but not a direct answer)

If everyone in the USA had a covid-19 vaccination, you can expect about 3 million people to die.

Sounds scary, right?

Until you realize that about 3 million people die each year.

The FDA statement said the J&J vaccines were associated with a "rare and severe type of blood clot" and "Treatment of this specific type of blood clot is different from the treatment that might typically be administered", but I couldn't find out what it's called so that I could look up the normal numbers/thousand. Of the 6 people out of 6.8 million, all 6 were women.

The CNN article said, "The pause happened because this type of blood clot is not listed on the list of potential adverse side effects that were part of the emergency use authorization for J&J."

... I couldn't find out what it's called so that I could look up the normal numbers/thousand....

"The type of blood clot reported in individuals who have received the J&J vaccine is called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). Blood clots usually appear in the legs or lungs, but these clots tend to appear in a vein in the brain or the belly, ... said Dr. Geoffrey Barnes, a vascular medicine specialist at the University of Michigan."

what’s the normal rate of blood clots?

Around 800,000 symptomatic DVTs are diagnosed in the US every year. If every man, woman, and child received the J&J vaccine, the overall increase in blood clots probably wouldn't reach statistical significance based on the current data. That being said, dural venous sinus thrombosis is bad.
