Goodbye Santa Monica Airport

I still cannot figure why any intelligent person would want to live in California..
Nice weather, good scenery, great diversity of places to fly(mountains, coast, desert) and in my field this is where the jobs are.

High Property Tax, High Gas Prices, High Cost of Living ect ect ect.

The price you pay for smog.

Yup... And every other car you pass on the road has a UNDOCUMENTED ILLEGAL ALIEN FROM MEXICO in it that has NO drivers license, NO insurance and 6 kids.. all on medicaid, food stamps Section 8 housing etc etc..... What is not to like ...........

Oh god..., can't we ever have a conversation that mentions CA that does not include someone saying how much they hate California?

We get it. Some of you don't like the state. We have heard it many times.

Then don't live here.

I happen to like it here, for reasons mentioned above and other reasons.

Why in the heck would any sane person want to live In an empty icebox like Wyoming?

People in a democracy get the government that they deserve. That, and if the community really doesn't want the airport they shouldn't have it.

Well, for starters, most of us who live here don't confuse one small very urban city with the rest of a large state.

"I can't understand why anyone would want to live in Wyoming when everyone knows there is nothing to see in Cheyenne." Same thing.

Hmm, a bit racist, are we?

That explains a lot.

Hint: it's not 1947 anymore. Ragging on the zoot suit crowd doesn't hold water.

To get away from California?:lol::lol:

Wyoming is my next state of residency. I need to get away from taxes, taxes and more taxes and into a business friendly state. I like having to drive all day to see my neighbors, or flying to see my neighbors and then land in their back yard.

Sounds incredibly boring to me.

The reasons for the dislike of California are actually related to the airport closure, namely: (1) that the state has a higher-than-average percentage of crybabies who stamp their feet, whine loudly, and demand changes every time anything is not exactly to their liking; and (2) that the government actually pays attention to said crybabies.

That being said, New York is not far behind in either category.

Let's be clear, this battle is far from over. The FAA has stated in no uncertain terms that the city is still obligated to operate the airport until 2023 based on federal grant $ they have accepted. This just begins the next stage of the legal battles.

Agreed,, but California will take the play book straight from Daily and treat the airport like Meigs.............:(

You need to learn more about the history of this battle. It isn't anywhere close to the same situation. Also, don't go blaming "California" - whoever that is - you should be blaming the developers who are ultimately the real $$s behind this push, they just take cover under the NIMBYs.

Tyranny of the majority strikes again. They getting a casino or a hogfarm? Oh well if pilots want airport in Santa Monica they should buy one.

And in the next eight years, they will likely get more federal money. Hence, prolonging the battle.

Yup.. That is my definition of California...

Probably a reference to the racist term you used. Doesn't help people take your other complaints seriously.

As a California native somehow I have always found plenty of opportunity despite the challenges people imagine.
I am grateful that there are not more people who want to live here, particularly those with strong opinions based on ignorance and little imagination.
It is my observation that California’s politics are driven by transplants from other states.

I moved from SoCal after 36 years...

Now, my wife can stay at home, I own my own plane, my house is bigger and have 9.4 acres more land, and I took a $30k pay cut in the process......

Trust me, there is nothing in Cali for me anymore except visits. My mom won't move because my 90 year old grandma is 45 minutes from her. Once she dies, they plan on moving to Branson area.

Anyone who thinks California is the place to live is delusional.:loco::loco::loco::loco:

Well, it doesn't have the racist epithet anymore, but it's still very racist and very wrong.

You're confusing form with substance.

You might benefit from understanding your own region's history before going after Santa Monica. Hint: 80 years ago, who owned all the land around you -- secretly -- and what state did he live in, and what was his relationship with the locals?

Good night sir....

I have lived in Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Washington and Ohio during my ARMY enlistment, I couldn't wait to get bak home to California to live. With my wages I have had no issues buying multiple homes, cars, airplanes and raise my 3 daughters without any illeagle running into me. I guess I am lucky to do this pretty much debt free.

A bit? He proved he's far more than a bit racist when he threw out the N word here a few months ago without thinking twice. Why would calling a Latino "beaner" bother him?:dunno::dunno:

This thread is on the verge of going away, which would be a shame given that the original topic has value.

Geez.....

Richard Pryor said the "N" word thousands of times and it was considered funny.. And even made MILLIONS off of doing it. Ever Jessie Jackson uttered that word on a open mic,,,,

But let a whitey say it ,, and He gets labeled a RACIST,....

Now back to the Santa Monica Airport closing please...:rolleyes2:
edit... I see Bill has entered... Bill , Feel free to delete all my off thread comments...

I hate to see any airport close, but sometimes the old has to go to make room for the new. Unless it is for the wrong reason.

I dispute point (1), I do not see that as factual. I can't find anywhere where the majority of people are not whinging *******. It's just that CA has a big population.
