Didn't see anything in that saying certified for "full scale" aircraft or a price. ADS-B for midgets...gonna need to be at least three times that size! :D

It looks to be marketed towards UAS. Which isn't a issue with me. I'd rather see that drone on my Ads-b then hit the bloody thing.

I met these guys at a conference in New Orleans last week. They've successfully miniaturized the tech to a point where it can fit on drones. The smallest one has a range of about 4 miles but the bigger ones will go much farther. I believe the largest one can only go on experimentals for now. As far as price, the smallest ones are in the hundreds of dollars, but unfortunately I don't remember the exact cost for the big guy...it definitely would make sense for an RV or other experimental though.

Garmin will buy them out, paint it black and move the decimal to the right.

I'm sure no matter how small and reliable one can make it, Garmin will convince someone to make damn sure it can't be used on any 35 year old certified spamcans with alternators from NAPA and door handles from cars of the 1930s.

If they would ever complete the part 23 re-write, though. . .

But they did complete that relevant portion re-write.... And it came out four fingers shy of a high five. No primary non-commercial for you I'm afraid. As such, no carte blanche non-TSO installations for the spam cans. Ding Dong the [certified] witch is dead.

The only thing close to it, is a one-off STC Dynon managed to convince the FAA into, and conveniently enough they haven't (to my knowledge) disclosed how much they'll be asking for the STC portion of the deal. My guess is, it doesn't make it cheaper than a certifed solution like the Aspen boxes. Non-starter.

Untill the part 23 re- write gets approved, and implemented,we don't have a chance. The re - write is not going to go far enough to really help the certified guys.
