Depending on if they offer me a deal, I'm dumping DirecTV for Comcast, (I know, I know. I'll get a clothespin for my nose and a Valium prescription...and I swear I'll allow them only 3 stupids before I go back to D*. In the past I've hit that just trying to get pricing.) I have to choose the lesser of three evils. Right now the evil is DirecTV willing to happily charge me nearly $30 a month for exactly 6 HD channels. With Comcast I'll be able to make use of a TiVo.
Ignore this post!!! It was obviously posted by an employee of the cable company. Really,.. shouldn't the spam filter catch this??
The Comcast installer just left. Yeah. Me. Comcast.
The only pains: When I called to order after saying I wanted new servcie the call director told me they couldn't find my account for my phone number and I needed to fix that on my records. Gee, sorry.
I had an 8-11 time slot. I got a call at like 8:20 that the guy was a mile away and my door bell rang before I put down the phone.
The guy was a local, actaul employee, with a good attitude. I spent most of the time teling him how my stuff worked and told him
where to get the surveillance cameras.
It took him until nearly 2 PM to finish - and the house was effectively pre-wired- only because no matter how many times I told the order taker I needed 2 CableCARDs they give them one, so he had to drive to another guy to get one. And the install requires getting the one guy on the other end that knows how to zap the card...X 2 for the two cards, so we waited for him to call.
And when he worked outside the skeeters ate him alive. He wouldn't take my offer of DEET or fogging.
Lessee....three long trips through Tivo guided setup with the downloads and the decompressions and organizings. Two reboots I tried for good measure, and that was after I spent an hour or two doing my homework ahead of time. (OK, a lot of the the time was spent seeing all the stuff that was there watching downloaded podcast videos.)
I have to wait until I set up all of my season passes and such, but it looks like I'll keep this setup. The picture quality is fine. Of course, I'm enjoying real hi-def for the first time but still. I'll have to see how many features CableCARD disables.
The installer dropped a new cable feed outside across my yard. I'll see if a crew really shows up to bury it like he said.
I'm a happy doodz. I'll be canceling DirectV directly. Did I mention I called Comcast after the third call I got from DirecTV in a 20 minute span telling me my bill was past due? Not that they'd call me for anything else. It wasn't past due an hour later. It's not past due now. I know for a fact it won't be late anymore.
