Bro do you even lift
once again, trying to organize a southeast PoA flyin.

The date: Saturday September 23rd, as suggested by @frank.durham


The options:

The Pik-N-Pig @ BQ1 (no landing fee)

small strip in the middle of absofarkinlutely nowheresville. delicious food on the field, outdoor seating, fun place. bring the kids, they have these bean bag things you try to toss into a hole and also a cow pasture they call a driving range.


The Runway Cafe @KGMU (no landing fee)
taxi right up to the restaurant for a tasty burger. outdoor seating, huge aviation themed playground for lil kids. The Monkey has eaten here, so it's kind of a big deal.



Molly Darcy's at N. Myrtle Beach KCRE (typically $12, waived with fuel)

1.5 miles from KCRE, right smack on the beach. outdoor seating and an incredible view of a shtload of water. CRE is an easy in N out..........go ahead, I made that one easy for you. fly in, eat lunch, walk on the beach, go home.

I voted hookers and blow at my place.. gotta check with wifee though... lol

I am no longer open to AVL at this time.. Landing fee $40 and parking fee: $12. Parking fee waived if you buy 10 gallons of gas @ $7/G. uhhh no

I'm a "lurker," and not a pilot, but my son is. I'm also finishing my Aviation Management degree, and just started on my Avionics degree. If you'll take a ground guy, and his aeronautical chaffuer, we'd love to join you at BQ1.

I'll go to any of them, but if I have to choose one, I say Pik'n'Pig at BQ1

I probably can't make that date, but I'd opt for the Pig or Sierra Nevada if I end up being able to go

I'm a GA boy stuck in the midwest with a twin so you can add me to your list. Unfortunately I can't make the Sept date but I like the amount of notice you gave. Hopefully the next one you put together I can swing down! I vote AVL or CRE purely due to runway length :)
 
Would it be difficult to land a twin at BQ1? Probably.
I prefer 3000+ primarily because I don't ever practice or go into short fields. The biggest issue with short runways is on departure. There wouldn't be much for accelerate stop. Basically it would be more v1 and you're committed to flying. Wouldn't be bad if it's relatively flat around the airport without tall trees at the end...didn't look that close down there yet. @Ted DuPuis use to operate in and out of short rwy's in his 310. Maybe he can chime in with his minimum acceptable during his prime?
 
at BQ1 if you come in on 13 they cut down the trees leading up to the rwy but coming in on 31, fuhgedaboudit.

I would fly into Southern Pines (KSOP) and get one of you brothers to pick you up. And if staying over, much nicer place to hang out (bring your golf clubs)
 
That list needs updating. Sammy's and the Spit Fire Grill have been closed for quite some time, which sucks because I enjoyed them both.
As did I, esp. Spitfire Grill. And by the way, why didn't I make the local peep list?
 
The restaurant on the field at Greenville, SC downtown airport KGMU is good, long runway, no fees, restaurant gives a 10% discount to those who fly in.

yeah we were discussing in chat swapping GMU for AVL.
 
If we get enough POAers interested in GMU because its a little more centrally located, thats cool. But the lead destinations are CRE and BQ1.

By the way, the Long Island Airpark fly in is going to be September 30. Y'all stop by if you want. Mine is the house about midfield that's under construction.

Back in my heyday I landed the 310 at 1900x25. That really gives you no to for error or problems, but it was a calculated risk.

Reality is that most PoA fly-in planes are piston singles, so while considering runway lengths for twins is nice, I don't think it's a requirement. Besides, pretty sure eman would up and die if I showed up at his fly-in.

He might die but I'm sure he would get better.
 
Can we compromise on a jack n coke? I don't drink that hoity toity rich stuff.

I can buy really cheap gin. But I accept your compromise.

There was an Apache based there for a while and the owner of the field regularly flew his Twin Commander out of it. That was even before the trees were cleared on the west end. Heck there are Cessna 421's that fly into my one way only 2800' strip!
