Probably a dumb question but I don't know the answer: Is there sufficient space on the data card to accommodate the current updates and well as the new updates that are active on May 28th? If both updates are on the card, will the 530 know which one to use?

That's stupid. The 480 card holds two updates and it takes the one that's currently effective (or the later one otherwise).

Thats what it does for my 430W also, wipes the old before it installs the new.

Pre-takeoff checklist
It allows you to install the next cycle early, and the 480 switches automatically to the new cycle if it's available on the switchover date.
Each cycle has an end date AND a begin date.

Correct, if both our out of date, it uses the later. Not good for IFR but as far as VFR goes, the airports most likely haven't moved.
