The view of the red X's is breathtaking!

:D

Good thing you had the reflective vest so you wouldn't get hit by any cars up there.

WOW! I read this thread first when the pictures weren't showing up...that's definitely NOT what I had envisioned you meant by ON the twin bridges. That's pretty cool. You're certainly a braver man than I, though, my knees would be shaking too much up there to take a good picture!

Changin' light bulbs? 400W bulbs are cool.

No, just a ride along to see a fellow engineers project and a chance to check out our new elevators. I usually do the deck work, so its fun to get in the air and enjoy the view.

Are you nuts??! :) That makes me quake, 2000 miles away! Though I do love hiking to high places. Tks for posting.

Cool!! You can almost see home from there. Always nice to get out in the field.

Approx how much tension is in that grouping of cables closest to Gary, engineers?

One of the Dirty Jobs episodes had Mike Rowe at the top of the Golden Gate (I think) changing lightbulbs. Mike walked the cables to get up there while the crew used the elevator.
Nah, I'll stay on the ground, Thank you.

Me, too.

It's funny -- I could fly over the thing all day long -- but if you made me walk on those cables, I would be reduced to a quivering mass of protoplasm. :yikes:

I'm also not a huge fan of heights. I had to get over it when folks started pointing out that our ham radio repeaters needed tower work and I was part of the three people under the age of 40 working on them.

Bought a climbing harness and lanyards, got trained by pros, and slowly make my way up and down to fix antennas and hardline.

The view is cool once you get used to the tower moving. Worst trip so far was contiuous 35-40 knot wind on top of Cheyenne Mountain while installing and aiming a link Yagi. That just suuuuuuucks. Hard hat blew off. Anything dropped landed in Kansas.

If no one else wants to climb, I'll do it. Not my favorite thing but there's stuff up there to get done.

Tower climbs are also a hefty workout. Put a ladder up against your 2-story suburban house and go up and down it ten times in a row. :(
