Found a truck...

I'm starting to wonder if they're the 4.10. I played with a spreadsheet some guy made and speeds and gears seemed closer to 3.53 than 4.10 but Dodge also makes a 3.73 in-between option. Not sure if it was available in 2001.

There's supposed to be a sticker under the hood that says what the gears are. I've already been under the truck and all you get from that is that it's a Dana 80. Could be tire size but they're supposedly the same size as stock but I know different manufacturers can be a bit off on those. Speedometer is exactly 1 MPH slow per GPS.

So basically, I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Have the original factory sticker and it doesn't show anything non-stock drivetrain-wise except that the truck has the "camper" package which is a rear suspension thing. Not supposed to indicate the gear ratio, as far as my research so far has shown.

Dodge only had two options for 2001 3.54 and 4.10. The 3.73 ratio didn't start until 2003 and the associated axle change to AAM.

If you are going 55 mph at 2100 RPM in 5th gear (direct ratio) and you still run a 235/85/16 tire with approx. a 31.75" diameter then you have 3.54 gears.

You have to raise the hood then look straight up to see the sticker - at least on my 97. There's a VIN decoder somewhere on line for the axle ratio.
Mine's the Dana 70 with 3.54.

I'll look again but I probably wasn't looking up. Silly Dodge. The VIN decoder says nothing about the axle ratio one way or the other.

I've been all over that site and never saw that page. But Dodge did stop publishing a lot of data in 1999 that is available for the older trucks. Mildly annoying.

This looks promising: "A small stamped metal axle gear ratio identification tag is attached to the cover by one of the cover bolts. This tag also lists the number of ring gear and pinion teeth." Never thought to look for number of gear teeth, just a ratio. Beat head here...

I'll be hunting for that. When it's warmer. Holy crap it got really cold again.

When the flurries started last night I sucked in the slides on the trailer and put the new toy away until it warms up again. Was nice to have 60F to play around for a day or two. Sheesh. Stupid winter!

I ran across the LED light strip threads on the other forum... Now I have this strange compulsion to install RGB strips and build my own controller for under-awning disco lighting. Hehehe.

Someone posted they use blue LED strips under the trailer and that critters don't like blue LEDs?? WTF?? Where did that come from??

It's also fascinating to me how many folks are just flat out confused about electronics. The discussions of whether and how to wire 12V LEDs into... Wait for it... 12V circuits... is mildly amusing. But I understand, not everyone has a need to figure out how stuff works...

Watched a video of a cutaway diagram of the fancy turbo/exhaust brake combo device on the newer Dodge trucks tonight. Thought it looked wicked cool but I bet I'd drop dead of a heart attack on the spot if I heard how much they're getting to replace one of those. OMG I bet that thing is spendy.
