I just received an email saying I finally have access to Foreflight Web.. Anyone else ?? It's looking pretty cool so far !!

What will it provide that all the other products currently on the market do not have? There are so many places to file and check weather I dont know what could be done differently.

It syncs with Foreflight that you use on your iPad/iPhone.. It's just an added bonus if you are a Foreflight user.. Sometimes it's nice to plan a flight from a PC while you are at work or don't have your iPad handy.. Plan on PC then save it and it appears as a route on your iPad...

Yep, just got it. Pretty cool that the Recent and Favorites routes sync from the iPad/iPhone. Though, I can't stop right-clicking like I used to do on SkyVector before they "broke" that site for the way I used it.

I got a quick look at it at Oshkosh. I'm not sure what is different between the web and tablet FF, but one feature I like is that I can do my flight planning at my desk and it will go right to my iPad.

I should probably apply and see if I can get in as a beta user. I'd like to give it a try.

This looks pretty sweet. I guess I will stop using SkyVector soon. I did not get the invite but went to the website and requested an invite, I guess I'm just not special enough yet to be a beta tester.

I am not sure how they choose but I submitted my request for an invite a few months ago..

Same here. Submitted the invite request when they initially announced it a few months back. Spoke to Ryan and Oshkosh about it and he said to expect it "soon" since they're rolling it out over the next few weeks.

Has anyone figured out yet how/if you can add a waypoint (navaid/airport/etc) mid-route? When I rubberband the route to include a new point, it just adds the GPS coordinates of that location, not the actual navaid or airport.

I got it too.

It's not a beta. It's an alpha.

There is not enough functionality to actually use it as more than a viewer for flights already planned on the tablet. Only the most trivial edits can be done. There is a long way to go before it's usable for planning.

Yes you can add it midroute.. with any waypoint.. such as an airport KCEV KLNP KMYR ... just type them in like you would in Foreflight and it looks the same and plots it as it would on your iPad..

I know you can type them. What I'm trying to do is plan a flight (ie, KMWC KAPA) to get a feel for what a straight line looks like. Then, look at what navaids/airways will make the best route for my /A flying taking into account things like fuel stops, sightseeing opportunities, etc. So what I do on the iPad/iPhone is drag the route line from a straight line to include other waypoints along the way. When I'm done, the route is built... without me having to type each waypoint in along the way and reload it. Make sense?

You mean like this ? :) This would be a long flight !

Yes you can drag and drop a route on the website.. If you stop over a NAVAID or airport it will add it if not it will add the lat/lon just like on the iPad..

For those of us who work in buildings that don't allow PEDs, this is a very nice thing to be able to do initial route planning and then have it later sync'd to the iphone/ipad.

I think I'm going to be in the 'about to can skyvector' crowd.

You can't have a PED, but you have computers with unrestricted internet access...?

Yes. If you've seen some of the crazy stuff (remote surveillance) that can be done through PEDs, you'd understand.

That said, I wouldn't call it unrestricted internet access. Lots of sites blocked for security reasons.

It's pretty feature incomplete, buys me very little over skyvector. It really needs to have all the aircraft from your Foreflight account and the altitude planning feature for winds. I also don't see a way to put the radar in motion which makes the radar somewhat worthless IMO.

Does it work only with Safari? Can't have it work with multiple browsers y'know. Too hard to take into account screen resolutions.

Worked on Chrome for me.

Man....... I've been a Foreflight user since version 2.0, have every bell and whistle option from them.... and still didn't get the web invite. Who do you guys have to know?!?! ;)

Remaining patient.... rant over.

I'm surprised FF would put out a poorly featured beta.... Doesn't seem to be their style.

I got it too.

Just curious, is it very uncommon for a successful app for phones/tablets to spawn a successful webpage that does much of what the app can do?

I can't immediately think of an example.

I flew a two-leg 700 nm flight today, and the hardest part about planning it was skyvector.

Previously I used skyvector to try this pair of legs, then that pair of legs, to compare different possibilities. It was great for such a purpose. But now it is mostly useful only if you know your exact route already. It is no longer easy to use for what-if comparisons of various ideas for a long trip.

If they just added a "clear" button to allow you to start over rapidly, at least some of the damage they did to skyvector would be undone.

This makes sense.

Next question: are most people using this for VFR purposes? When I plan a flight I go to my favorite website and look at the most recently filed between departure drome and arrival drome and that's what I select. No drag and click or anything real fancy for me I guess.

Kind of like that, except it looks like your intermediate (not typed in the box) points are all GPS coordinates. I'd like them to auto-resolve to navaids/airports if that's where I've clicked.

I've since heard back from a Foreflight rep who went out of their way to contact me personally about my question and am told this functionality is "coming soon" to the web version.

I'm excited about the potential here and have no problem keeping in mind this is currently a beta release.

I have no idea what their criteria is (could be as simple as alphabetical by last name). But I also know that I've sent numerous bug reports and feature requests throughout the years. If you're looking for feedback on a beta, releasing it to the people who've shown they won't hesitate to give it (whether asked or not) would seem like a logical way to go.

I use it for both VFR and IFR. I'll also check recently filed routes, but sometimes would prefer a different route (ie, not over Lake Michigan). So using the rubber banding options of Foreflight (on the iPad/iPhone now, but eventually also on the web) or Skyvector on the web I can play with different routing to determine which I prefer.

No joy for my request, either. I kind of figured I would be left out of the early invites when I saw the "tell us about your flying" questions. VFR, low time, personal flying, probably wasn't who they were looking for.

I filled out the beta invite request when I read this thread and received my invite this morning. I've been playing around with it a little and it's not too bad so far. Obviously being in beta it has a long way to go.

I received my invite this afternoon. Spent a few minutes on it. You're not missing anything. It's pretty vanilla at this point. I couldn't figure out how to "sync" to my mobile device - anyone figure that part out?

It did it automatically for me when I typed in a route in the box. When I clicked "Save" it appeared in my favorite routes part on the iPhone app.

Requested my invite back in March or April and am still waiting. Anything would be better than Skyvector, which is totally messed up now.

People aren't really using it for "any" purposes other than testing. Keep in mind this is early beta (and really barely that) with very few features. The goal is more about "does the base map work?" Since ForeFlight itself uses recently cleared ATC routes (similar to FltPlan, although FltPlan's is still a bit better), I expect the web interface will eventually have it also.

Isn't that only if you've filed or briefed it?
No. On the web beta when you type in a route it will automatically sync to your other devices. If you click save it'll save and sync to your other devices as a favorite route.

Finally got my invite! Been playing with it. So far, I really like the fact that it can be a Skyvector replacement. Once they beef up the features, it will be a great go-with for the app. Looking forward to it!

I wish the map redraw was as fast as sky vector though... It seems a decent bit slower.
