Kilts make sense. I'd wear a kilt instead of shorts most of the time if I didn't feel self-conscious about being branded a kook.

Here's a counterexample, and it's even aviation-related:
At Oshkosh, the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol has a bagpipe band that performs while wearing kilts, with the CBP uniform color & logo.

The fact that bagpipers wear kilts in no way enamors me of the fashion.

I see kilts on the hiking trails occasionally. Probably quite comfortable on a hot day...

A friend of mine wears his kilt to play golf. One day his wife didn't let him play and I said "we know who wears the skirt in that family"
