Yeah but it's fake drama with airplanes... and at least one dude who'll still land a 180 in the backcountry after breaking his neck doing it... literally...

I'll take it over "CSI: Bentonville, AR" or "Survivor: Manhattan Hot Dogs" any day of the week. ;)

I'm glad the rumor of the show being cancelled was false. The rumor was that the FAA had a problem with some of the flying they do and went after them. So Jim Tweto pulled the plug on Discovery.
 
He's too savvy a business person methinks. All he has to do is say, "never ever show X, Y, or Z ever again on the show, and I get first right of refusal on all footage".

I doubt he'd kill the cash cow. He'd just milk it differently.

We'll see if the footage becomes significantly more benign this season....
 
I can see that happening. I question sometimes their definition between VMC and IMC. I hope the whole Ariel vs pilot license won't be over blown this year. Half of that was her just doing her acting thing.

Personally, I'd love to see a "Survivor: McMurdo"

But then I don't think the franchise standards of skimpy clothing on a beach would work quite so well there.
 
The melodrama and misrepresenting VMC as IMC is just the price of watching the show. As a previous poster said, it's about AIRPLANES! Besides that Ariel has yet to damage my eyeballs.

I honestly have no idea, I'm not sure what Netflix schedule is for uploading new seasons of TV shows.

It's available on iTunes. Downloaded it last night. $23 for the full season.
 
I watched some of the episodes when they were showing re-runs the other night. Pretty cool...and those pilots deal with some serious weather conditions.
 
I'm interested to see if Ariel got her private. God help Alaska if she did.
 
I have a hard time stomaching the manufactured "drama". There is some great photography, and anytime Jim Tweto flies the backcountry the smart guys are taking notes. Outside of that it's actually pretty mundane.
 
Thanks for letting me know. I owe it to them to watch since they are what made me a pilot.

I've indefinitely tabled my plans to fly up to Alaska in my Cardinal... :(

Oh wait, she lives in California... and I was hoping to get out that way in the next year or so... :eek:

But OTOH, she probably doesn't do any flying down in the lower 48. :wink2:
 
easy, just assure the FAA that the part where they were legal was left out in editing. And I've seen much more fake shows on 'reality' tv.

The skimpy clothing comes out at theme parties. Well, at every party. Every Saturday night.

If McMurdo didn't have a mandatory six day work week, many would never recover from their hangovers.

Lots of McMurdo stories in Denver with Raytheon having had that contract for so long. The "home office" is here. Or was. (So much for that.)

The Pole and the Palmer Station are tamer in many ways. McMurdo is a small city with nothing to do on its day off.

Things get even stranger if you are in the smaller more deserted town of folks who "winter over", and even with psych tests, and being hand-selected to be part of the crew that stays on over the winter, a number of folks get bat-**** crazy -- after months with no sunrise and generally stuck inside because of the wind and cold.

You have to be able to get along with some pretty nutty people at McMurdo. Mostly harmless. But nutty.

Having no real TV, last winter I ordered the DVDs from the Discovery website for the first year, and I enjoyed it so much that immediately ordered the second year, even though it wouldn't be released until June. I was looking forward to finding out for myself what happened to Ariel.

Sure, it has a lot of inflated drama, but the people actually seem pretty genuine. Ariel sure knows she's on TV, but I've seen her on Wipeout and Craig Ferguson, and that's how she is. I'd watch the show just for Jim if I had to.

Snafus happen all the time in the cockpit...adding ominous music just makes it more dramatic.

I have major brain farts some of the time, and I'm still a pilot. I might even come across as ditz. Not sure.
 
Any thoughts on that 500 ft. landing in recent episode? Seems like a stretch to me.
 
I also liked how Pontz couldn't land to deliver medicine to that woman, yet they had a camera there to get footage of her. Obviously, someone was able to make it there.

Seems plausible to me, if barely. A Caravan weighs in empty at almost 4600 lbs, and at 6800 lbs, it takes six hundred something feet to land. So it could work. I think.
 
I love the show and was suprised to see new episodes so soon after the end of the last season.

I am guessing they went back in spring to film her segments. Who know what is "real" in these type of shows.
