Flying around Texas in early October

But yes, I agree that a Bonanza loves grass. Many planes do!
 
I don't know of many planes that won't like grass. My Comanche loves it. So do Barons and 310's. Maybe a big SE with a heavy nose gear might want to go somewhere else - something like a T28. Other than that, I can't think of many airplanes that won't like a good grass strip of decent length/width.
 
I was never really happy with my early Grumman AA5 on grass. It has the castering nose, limited elevator travel, spring steel gear legs, and tight wheelpants. Not that it can't be done, it was just not a good candidate for a lot of grass fields.

There are some with marginal clearance. The Mooney Acclaim that Kent is flying is an example (note that I'm not saying it's true of all Mooney's, witness Mooney Row at Gaston's one year!) Dave felt uncomfortable with the P Baron there one year, too. Don't know how or if that differs from the Baron you mention.

Been many a time in the last 15-20 years the newsies will forecast icy or snowy conditions, the schools and the municipalities do a complete shut down, and we wind up with a wonderful CAVU day with temps in the balmy 60's.

A friend with a 1968 A36 shares that sentiment. Claims hard surface runways as an "extravagant luxury"

I remember a time back in the early 1990's, IIRC, when I was in College Station, TX, for a week and the temp was the low 30*s and there were flurries. Ugh!
 
Next time just hang a right at the CLL VOR and fly about 1,100 nm west. Land at PSP. Winter weather will be better.

Turf strip took a good-sized chunk out of my nose pant. I haven't landed on too many turf strips since, and won't with good reason. And no, the pants aren't coming off. They belong. Plenty of clubs and rental places don't let aircraft land on grass, I imagine for the same reason.

Grass fields will do whatever is necessary to keep the Cherokees and other riff-raff away.

Don't plan on eating my share of Gumbo yet! Tomorrow I hope to work my way down there, even if it means having to spend the night at Muskogee or McAlester.

(Hangs head in shame). Building had power shutdown overnight. Had to go fire up servers and phones. One battery backup unit failed. Phones and data inop when powered up.

It sucks to be responsible.
 
Same thing happened here. Had to reset all clocks, network servers and coffee pot. Some devices I didn't look at probably have the blinky-12:00 but they will just have to wait.
