First Snow!

Shouldn't blame G-d as well? I mean obviously he did not answer your Governor's prayers to bring rain. It only be because G-d is spiteful or the citizen's of Georgia were not worthy? :D:D:D;););)
Naw... I hold nothing against Him. We as a whole are not preserving our resources. It starts at the control of storage.

The second snow is supposed to be 2-5 inches tomorrow, meaning we'll get 0 to 11 inches. :dunno:

I didn't. Thought the temp and the rain would get it all. Anyone want to go skating?:(:D
I didn't either, and they did. No problems here. Guess you're right about me being in Southern Illinois! :) Does that mean I need to make sure none of my tax $$$ go for public transportation? :dunno::D

Our snow turned to rain, 15 inches today in one area, and flooding with roads closed, bridges out, etc. There's an inch of rain in the hangar and work is proceeding.

Interstate 5 is closed from mp 68 to mp 88 with 5 feet of water over the roadway in some places. They hope to reopen it tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. There's a detour for cars that is out of the way, and trucks are being re-routed to central Washington and back over the Cascades if they're trying to get from Portland to Seattle. About a 200 mile detour.

All this mess and my Jeep went in the shop last night to get the fender repaired after I got cut off in a traffic circle last Monday. Driving my son's Mustang in the meantime. Nice car, but I sure feel a lot more vulnerable in traffic. :D

Sure. As long as Chicago makes sure that none of theirs goes for your (Oops, now, my) roads.

I liked how one state drone broke out the old "This isn't the State of Chicago" chestnut. They really should push to succeed Chicago from the state. (As long as we can take Lake County out, too, to be the State of Norshore. We get Kenilworth, Lake Forest, and Winnetka. :D )

After succession, Illinois would look like Arkansas, and I don't mean Little Rock.

Think the U.S. could stand another 4 Senators? :D

Maine's first snowstorm of "before it's Winter" leaves just a few flakes falling today. Five Islands is only a few miles below my house. So, I went down to check it out, never having been there at this time of year.
#1: There sure are a lot of those "from away" large sailboats missing from the moorings.
#2: In the summertime, good luck finding a parking space.
Bill Suffa: The high ground in the distance is Southport Island, and you know that Boothbay Harbor isn't very far beyond.

#3: Nice day for a snack on the dock.
#4: Can't get much more inland and calm than this, eh?

I made it back home last night via 3 detours in north Seattle for flooding and I'm staying here til things drain off!

Ah, shoot; Mike. You have nearly flat ground. Here's the hill I go down(and up) to get to(and from) the main road. (I don't plow the pictured access road) My driveway is about 150 feet down from where I took the first photo, less from the 2nd shot. So far, no problem driving down or up, but the down requires a slow descent under the imaged conditions.

3.5 inches of rain? no problems, it ran down the drain. and was VFR and 57 degrees here today.

This morning, I was on my way down to PDK for a flight in very nice, clear skies. Listening to Fox News on XM, they were saying portions of roads were under five feet of water. Later, I heard stories of winds upward of 100+ MPH.

What happen up there?!?!? Floods or snow storms?

I wish!
It was over 12" here and the slush from the previous snow with fallen leaves clogged the storm drains. It's not bad now though, right here, other areas are bad off though.

The whole Olympic Penn. is out of power, main transmision line is down, One of the huge steel towers blew over .

Wow! I saw this and was worried about youse guys:

Well, Olympia gets lots of rain. We have some standard flooded street locations which were particularly bad this time around. But, areas around us got nailed far worse. The Chehalis airport, CLS, is closed with several feet (yes, feet, not inches) of water on the property. Many airplanes were moved to higher ground and just got their wheels wet, but I've heard that the ones in locked hangars are a lot wetter. We'll see what happens as the water recedes.

And I-5 is still closed in that area, and will be for a while (days) longer. A mess.

We got a dusting this morning, a few inches. Made a small mess of things, not like you dudes in Washington. Should all be melted by this weekend.

We got the 6 inches and it's still falling. I thought we were far enough west to be clear of the lake effect snow but I guess they call it Lake County for a reason. The county west, where Scott is is also in the snow advisory area.

I got about 6" so far as well. There was some lake effect still coming down. But I got the snow blower out and cleared the driveway this morning. Last night I still had ice on the driveway when I came home. But after the snow last night it is all gone. Weird? Even the think stuff at the end of the drive, but that at least could have been from all the salt that got pushed onto the end form the plows that went by.

I did have a real hard time starting my snow blower, I am so glad I got the electric start one or my arm would have broken off!

Oh, quiet! I didn't get electric start. I got the "Guaranteed to start" 2 cycle. Nowhere in the guarantee is how SOON it starts.

Second Snow!

The front, pre-snowblow. I'm off to start the sucker directly.

The windows on the Mustang are covered with snow, even though it's under a roof.

The back. I've been looking at the doggie door that leads to this deck. It's opposite the stairs with the measure. It's 7 inches, BTW. The closeup shot got fogged.

I think Pancho is gonna not like it, even if I shovel the deck. I should expect her to whine to be taken back to Missouri in 3,2,1....

I just need a blower that works that well!

Here ya' go!
snowblower.jpg

LOL! What is that? A V-8 with dual headers?

I DO need a bigger blower. *sigh*

Mine took me 90 minutes, and it bogged down with the big piles. Since it doesn't have the big throw I end up tossing teh same snow over and over and without slef propel I have to drag the thing back and forth. I'm gonna be tho thore.

It's brand new. *sigh*

Nothing like having the biggest driveway on the block and the smallest snow blower.

I guess I have to Craiglist the old one and go for the $1000 Toro I saw at Ace.

I'm gonna ask the Ace and the dealer I got mine from about a trade up deal. Like I'm made of money. :(

Wow; all that modern equipment you guys have. My poor old antique goes back to the late 70s, needs a paint job; and the chains are beat. But it works great, and I got a good deal on it back in August. (I had to get one; my super neighbor back in Topsham used to keep my drive cleared with his snow blowing tractor).

Well, Geeze, Harley, IT'S A GRAVELY! That's a COMMERCIAL blower. They use those on commercial buildings like the Boeing Building (I worked there. I know.) It's like having a John Deere. They never die.

If you had the rotating brush cleaner you can go down to the pavement every time.

I'm jealous.

I did have a buddy advise me to check out flea markets.

I think if I can limp through this season with my too-small one I'll make my move during the next off-season.

For anybody that cares,

I have the Snow Commander (actually, the previous model)
I lust after the Power Max 828,
http://www.toro.com/home/snowthrowers/index.html
I have the same one you have albeit with electric start. I like they way they do electric start. No battery, you plug the unit into house current and that excites a power supply that then engages the starter.

I note that the "Guaranteed to Start" warranty says it must start in two pulls. It's NEVER been two pulls. It started today from cobwebs and the whole summer off, but it took 10 or so pulls.

I think the Snow Commander would be OK if I didn't have the 75 feet of curb. For a narrow driveway it would do it. My problem I have to get the snow from the center to sides in one toss, or I end up throwing it again, and the pile gets too high for the height of the intake. That, and the snow plow leaves me 75 feet of 2 foot high pile which is too much to tackle.

This was 6 inches. If we get 12 inches I'll have to pay for a plow!

I didn't know the first thing about the unit. One of the guys from Merrymeeting Airport 08B had it at his house. He found a good deal on a riding tractor and told me about this one. You can see in my photo at the right border is a sulky for it(the wheels need greasing). Also, there's some attachment for it that if the snow blower is removed and the attachment installed, any of the current-day Gravely stuff(lawn mower, roto-tiller, and others) (not that I'll need any of that stuff)will quickly attach to the "converter"(my terminology). However, it's so old that the snow blower will only work attached as shown. All-in-all, I figured -- after seeing it throw leaves -- for lack of snow -- in August, how could I go wrong for $400.00.
But it's cold-blooded as heck; requires considerable choke for about 15-20 minutes warm-up.

I saw Harley's picture and fully expected the next picture to show Jack Nicholson come around the snowdrift saying "RedRum!"

No! The kid, Danny, said "Redrum." Jack said, "HERE'S JOHNNY!"
