I believe the carrier based Jap Zero was started the same way. No need for a starter if you had an engine out, or kamazazied.
Not a problem after digesting the article and photos. The truck was stopped with the starter adapter 6-8 inches from the prop receptacle.
The truck was firmly chocked against further forward motion.
After starting, the truck was backed away from the airplane before the chocks were picked up.
If the driver accidentally put the truck into forward, the chocks would have prevented the 6+ inches of forward motiuon required to get the starter adapter into the prop.
