This fellow was really current with his plane and made a spectacular approach. Finding himself slow, he pushed throttles forward and immediately went into a 70° bank which caused him to hit the ground out of control.

What is it about the MU-2 that can cause this? What's the lesson?

Don’t know, other than it’s a historically accident prone aircraft.

It has no ailerons, but no clue if that has anything to do with it.

It was the spoilers vs aileronsband the huge fowler flaps and lack of training that gave it the record I think, as I recal after the specific Mu training the accidents went waaaay down.
 
Was that Pascal's crash?

I didn't see a name in the report.

Never mind, I just checked on another site and, yes, this was Pascal. Such a good guy, so sad.

He had less than a "spectacular" approach. He had an engine out, did everything wrong to correct it, had too little schooling. Should have easily made the landing. The lesson is to get more lessons

I don't think that approach was spectacular. High, fast and off course is more like it. Would have had the same outcome in a King Air or Cheyenne.
 
I didn't see anywhere saying one engine had failed.

Maybe I missed it but I didn’t see anything about an engine out.

Reading the report he let himself get way behind the airplane. Sometimes you just gotta say “This ain’t gonna work” and get vectors for another try rather than push it.
Our company has a no fault go around policy, no questions asked and either crew member can call for the go around.
Most of us are type A people who want to “accomplish the mission “ but like I said, sometimes you just gotta step back and try another approach.
 
It did mention that anti-icing systems should have been on, but didn’t mention if the airplane had accumulated ice. But, if it had, being slow and near stall, ice could have altered how the airplane reacted to the addition of power.
